I, personally, am FOR Second Life being an extension of RL in as many ways --- even those that you see as negative --- as is possible. I think, too, that that's Phillip's major goal (or, as I like to say, "rezzin' d'etre";), as evidenced by his championing of Neal Stephenson's vision as The Way To Go. SL is not supposed to remain some quarantined place of entertainment, some virtual gated community; it's supposed to expand and become part of the greater Internet (which itself will increasingly overlap --- or, at least, overLAY --- and certainly follow the same type of flows as --- Real Life) that spills like so much tasty broth into our screens' vertical bowls ...

And, gosh darnit, Di ... I don't see RL itself, for that matter, as "just another dreary captialist enterprise complete with ads, bills, money exchange etc." Of course, there are times when rampant commercialization is enough to make one want to proj-vom on every passing ad exec or corporate honcho, yes ... but this, too, is true:

do uu think that disabled ppl and reguler ppl that has no money but what they make to keeep theeir house phone internet ect, buyiin $L too get ssomething in sl like aa 5k skin. as forr mysself i cant buy $L so i work my butt off orr win $L.. for me sl is both game andd platformm but if i havto buy $L for sl idd be broke as hell..

Fees for Buying Currency
Buyers of currency will be charged a fixed fee of $0.30 per transaction, regardless of the amount purchased.

Fees for Selling Currency
Sellers of currency will pay a fee of 3.5% per transaction. Proceeds will be initially credited to your Second Life account balance. Sellers wishing to receive a payment by either check or PayPal will pay fees according to the schedule given below. To request a payment from your balance, send an email to exchange_proceeds@lindenlab.com with the amount you would like to receive and the method of payment you would like to use.

Check sent by mail: $10.00 processing fee
Paypal transfer: $5.00 processing fee. (We are in the process of automating payment and will reduce this fee)

Some info you have to look for on the page that's not highlighted.

This is simply about money and how LL can get more of yours.

Legal implications alone should bear more investigation, however this will also impact many who use excess Lindens to pay their accounts or portions of them.
There isn't a reason I can see that LL would wish to stabalize the trade value of lindens except to profit from it. This will likley have impact on the in game supply and demand economy.

I cannot even get a response on a piece of land being held as to when it might be released for purchase, why would I want to give LL control over my money and wait for them to get to it? What accountability and recourse will there be for errors , who will do the accounting and transaction tracking?

It will be interesting to see how many people that sell lindens have to downsize or quit because the sale of lindens doesn't support thier in game needs anymore.

Wow. That really trims back on the potential profit margin from LL-to-cash. Effectively, it means that if you intend to make any money at all in-world, it had better be darned hefty before you try to make a withdrawal. There will be no fringe entrepreneurs.

nah if anything it makes it easy to start up, since your only real life cost (besides time) 'tier' will be easier than ever to 'waive' more or less

it will help people naturally grow out, as they do better, they can afford more tier, easily, and can expand without really taking on a higher and higher burden, like alot of us in the 'old guard' have had to over the years
