This sounds like a wonderful program to have, and hopefully will help a lot of those new to the game to actually feel welcome in the game.

There's a lot of enthusiasm about this and it's really inspiring.

Has there been any movement on this yet? I'm really interested in participating.

I was all for the greeter program at first but now I'm not so sure. Anyone who spends any time at all in the Welcome Area is going to get negative rates from the little halfwit griefers who hang out there. Just yesterday I was helping someone and mentioned that there were grifers (I didn't mention names) in the area so be careful. Sure enough, one of the little nitwits heard me, and gave me a negative rating because of my bad attitude she said.
I guess helping a new person out is considered a bad attitude by some. |

from a newbie's perspective..

As someone who is new to SL (going on 2 weeks) I think that the greeter program sounds very helpful. There is still so much to learn and explore within SL, and it would be nice to have a little guidance. Plus, real residents can share their own experiences and can provide information that might not be found in the corporate guides.
I realize, as others have mentioned, that there is already live help and mentors, but from my own personal experience I got zero response from online help the one time I tried it and I have yet to see a mentor anywhere. Sorry, I don't mean to sound whiney, I do realize that there can't always be people at my beck and call ![]() Anyway, I think greeters sound great and I just wanted to toss in my two cents about it. |

All-right! This is something that I would love to be a part of. I will admit it I am a sucker for a poor lost new person. When I meet a new person, I ask what they think there interest in the game could be. We talk a bit about the options. And if we have the same interest in the game I will offer my time, if they would like. I offer my time now or at a set time in the future, if they would like. Most ppl jump on it.
I would have loved to have had a greeter, and if I didn't connect well with that greeter, have the open option to try another. Second Life be so overwhelming at first, if I would have had the option to pick a greeter from a list.....well I would have spent time with many of them, all of them. A volunteer, someone that gives freely. I am proud to volunteer my time now and would be proud to be a greeter as well. It is a wonderful idea, many sl ppl want to give help, and many ppl want the help. Having a greeter is better than having a box on your head and not knowing how to get it off, or being the new guy with the skirt on. ![]() |

I always remember the sheer generosity of the person who first helped me in SL; she showed me how to do some basic things, gave me some hot clothes and answered my questions without stinting. The experience has stuck with me; she's still one of my very closest SL friends.
If I can make others feel how i felt... that would be a good thing, I think. (oh and i thought it was just me who got a box stuck on my head) |

Malana, I was wondering about that myself... I've been online at the same time that some acquaintances have registered for SL, and they certainly did not see any changes on the registration process. I guess that "fixing" the login server had much more priority (and I'm certainly glad for that!) than changing the registration process.
