I don't use calling cards.
Please don't make yet another restriction on what we can do because of the actions of a few assholes. We have enough of those already.
(Restrictions and assholes, I mean)

There is an alternative solution. 'Show me online'. If you can hide yourself, voila, this problem has gone. -Adam

I think this would be a mistake...

From a mentor's point of view. Teleporting is a very Frequently used thing for me. I have had new residents Teleport me to them or I teleport them to me whether it's for one to one assistance OR to get them to an event they want to be at. Teleporting is a very useful tool. If you opt to make it for only for those holding calling cards only I feel it would do more harm then good. It would make it alot harder for me to get to that new resident who may need some help & vice versa. Please do not add this.

From: Eggy Lippmann Change it to *Request* Teleport, instead of *Offer* Teleport. That's pretty much how it works already anyway... I IM someone and say, "tp me". It could pop up a box saying "Eggy Lippmann would like to teleport to your present location" and have Allow and Deny buttons. Awww, you read my mind. I thought I was gonna get to make the brilliant post...

I like the idea of "adding" the "request TP".
Why do you have to replace it?
Also, I like the option to ignore those not on your CC list. But can you extend that to options for decision to permit Org members as well?
Some people think that there is LAG associated with having too many CCs. If that is true, then I will have to weed my list.
I vote to ADD and permit options!

From: Apotheus Silverman I think it would work very well if this was made an option that can be set in preferences. "Allow teleport offers from anyone" So that if the option is NOT checked, only people in your contact list can offer a teleport, and the rest are ignored. Otherwise, please leave it alone. I use this functionality often. I use the option a lot to TP individuals to my land who I do not have cards for - which is frequent as I rarely trade cards with anyone. Please leave this function in or as Apotheus mentions, just add an option where people who feel they are being spammed can unclick the "Allow teleport offers from anyone" and then reclick it when they want a TP from someone who they have not traded cards with.

I think this could be easily solved by requiring people not on your calling card list to initiate an IM with you and receive some sort of response. Only after this initial exchange would the Offer Teleport option be enabled. This would keep teleport spammers from TPing you without your consent (stupid blue box looks just like the Announcements notification so we blindly click the button) since they would have to actually TALK to you first, not just hit the Offer Teleport button in the Find dialog. Another option: Move the button. I have often wished it was on the IM window instead of the Find dialog or the Profile dialog. If you had to open an IM with someone first, then talk to them and receive a response only then would the button light up allowing you to click it (otherwise it would be dim). This would not apply to those on your CC list. Still Another Option (tm): Move the Teleport dialog box. In its current location it echoes the dreaded Announcements dialog, and we click it blindly only to pop up somewhere with badly textured walls, lots of WOOHOOT'ing, particle mayhem and *gasp* physics-enabled lighting!!! On this topic, why not add a Return to last Location option to teleporting (under Teleport Home add Return to Last Location)? Please?

Taun, if you were required to start an IM convo first, people would just IM spam you THEN TP spam you, or it would just be IM spam (if you had to respond in order for TP to be come an option).
I do like the idea of "Return To Last Location" though, I often wish I had this option.

I do like the idea of "Return To Last Location" though, I often wish I had this option. IM spam is almost always a group spam. TP spam is most likely someone who does a search for all people online and offers teleports via the Find dialog. It's unlikely that a TP spammer will want to strike up a convo with you, receive a reply then hit the offer teleport button. TP should only be available in one-on-one IM. Adding these extra steps would prolly help cut down on TP spam. This is only for those not on your CC list too -- so if as soon as you log in your friend excitedly TP's you to their location without an IM first, that's okay.

I just wanted to throw in my support for the idea of having a check box in prefs to allow/disallow teleports from people not on your CC list. I mentioned it in the thread on this topic in another part of the forum, but didn't realize there was a thread in here for it The only question would be what the default should be.. I think newbies should be spammable, but only because they aren't used to SL yet and when they are and get to where they realize how annoying it is, they are familiar with the ability to turn such things on and off. I can just see Live Help and the Liasons answering tons of questions from newbies asking constantly why they can't teleport/be teleported, only to figure out they needed to trade CC's first.

I like the idea of the options to receive TPs or Not. A switch that can be turned on and off at our whim. I have hundreds of calling cards, but I still often have to give and receive teleports from someone who I have not yet traded cards with. So I do not like the idea of limiting it to just calling cards you have. PS: Another use for calling cards is the ability to track someone that you have traded cards with. I use this feature often.

I want to throw in my vote on the side of reversing the direction of teleport offers. Make them requests instead. In my experience, teleports are usually used when two people are IMing and decide to get together. One askes "TP me?". Make that request what the Teleport button in each user's profile does. Users Profile :: button "Request TP"... (no other dialog is needed, so no "join me in xxxx" message to confirm) "User So-N-So is requesting a teleport to your location." ("Offer Teleport" ,("Decline" If the "Offer Teleport" button is clicked, teleportee is given the same "User Such-N-Such is offering you a teleport to theirlocation." dialog, but without the extra comment. (This is so that if the request takes a long time to be granted, the teleportee has the option to either cancel or adjust the timing so they can say goodbye to whomever they are with. And I'd want ANYONE to be able to request a teleport to my position, and for me to be able to request a TP to anyone else. Such a travel may be for the very purpose of exchanging calling cards. And with reversed control, the unsolicited TP offer is a thing of the past.

Tiger this is a really interesting idea. I like it very much. If I were to put my support somewhere, I would suggest this option.
However I would still ALSO add the "Accept TP from anyone" option in your preferences. Though Taun may only experience group IM spam, I consistently get people I have never heard of IMing me and saying "hi". The option Tiger suggests would reduce the number of random TPs dramatically, but I don't necessarily want random people trying to teleport to MY location either. With the box in prefs, Mentors can uncheck it if need be. Options are always the best choice!

(This is so that if the request takes a long time to be granted, the teleportee has the option to either cancel or adjust the timing so they can say goodbye to whomever they are with. I wholeheartedly support reversing the teleport, but it would be a lot simpler if the person who is leaving says their goodbyes before requesting the teleport. If it takes more than a half a minute to accept, have it cancel. If the person requesting a teleport moves more than a meter or two from where they are standing, have it cancel. 1) A -> B Request Teleport 2) B Accepts 3) A is teleported to B Simple, elegant, and kills a lot of spam.
