I haven't seen any Lindenaire games on the events list for a week now, and almost no trivia events. Are these losing favor??

1. Low attendance.
2. No Linden support. _____________________

That's a shame. I have nothing against the *ingo games and play them once in a while myself but I have more fun at the trivia games. The one at The Shelter is pretty fun but it's only 2 or 3 nights a week (I forget exactly when). Are there any others out there?

Yes, occasionally, but not regularly scheduled, there is Trivia hosted at Golgotha Firing Range and Gun Club. Not just guns, explosives, robots, knives, swords, etc etc. We love meeting as many needs and wants of the members of our group as we can reasonably meet. sorry, I am at a computer without the information, but do a search for 'guns' in find, or just Golgotha, and you'll see where we are, and please, pardon the mess, we're doing a little re-model

You are not alone in noting the demise of many of the trivia and similar events. That was one of my main sl pastimes and I met some wonderful people at them, many of whom I rarely see nowadays.
Pulling the plug on event funding for this type of event was, in my view a bad thing. ![]() I see occasional events, most often at non-UK friendly times but not many. /me sighs. |

hmm, interesting, I didn't realize the events had worn down.
I was in the process of developing my own trivia game for PTL Network when suddenly several versions came out, so I scrapped it. If this is the case, I may very well start it back up again. _____________________

Yes I miss that scene too. I'm told that the inbuilt questions in Lindenaire are US specific and probably wouldn't work in European time zones. _____________________

We hold regular Lindenaire games at TeaZer's Isle, usually at least once or twice a week, or somes as part of a multi-games session.

I have suspended my Jeopardy too, lack of attendance! We were lucky to get 4 or maybe 6. I miss it too, I really enjoyed it, but I put a lot of work into the questions to have very few participants.
Garth and I came up with the Jeopardy idea when Char asked us to brainstorm for some new event ideas for Stage 4. Way back in September of 2003! heheh, I ended up having Jeopardy twice a week, once a week on Stage 4 as a Mentor Event and once a week on our land. Sad, but no one comes anymore. Just a few faithfuls like Barbarra, Archytas and Simon. _____________________

I use to do four different types of trivia games.
Would be happy to do em again, but I have no prize money to offer. ![]() _____________________

Guys - Don't forget Payment Podium. We've been doing it at the Shelter 3 nights a week since January. While there are many other games in Second Life, we're one of the few events that operate like a TV game show.
It's a similar format to Who Wants to be a Millionaire, with a few twists that make the game more condusive to Second Life. Its home-grown at the Shelter, and you wont find it anywhere else. The questions start out simple, and get progressively difficult to the point of downright evil. Its Sundays/Tuesdays/Thursdays at 6PM at the Shelter in Isabel - stop on by ![]() ****** The primary reason Payment Podium is 3 nights a week, instead of every day - is the amount of effort that our host (Sumar Morgan) puts into selecting and researching the questions. I would *love* to do Payment Podium more often - and more importantly, at a more Euro-friendly time. Unfortunately, the pay is crap (we're not for profit), and its a ton of work for the host. To reduce the burnout factor for Sumar and myself - we decided to limit it to 3 days a week. I'm blessed to have Sumar put the time she does into this labor of love ![]() _____________________

I really miss trivia events too. I tried my hand at hosting trivia events too, with a variation.
Rather than it being a "typing contest", I would ask a question which would require 2 answers, that seem to help level the playfield for slower typists. BTW....does anyone remember the name of the guy that had events almost daily.....he had an afro. I really enjoyed these events, as I did Siobahn's, Pitucca's and Steffi's. Maybe, just maybe.... we could ask the Lindens for a slight variance in the "events" rules, which would allow someone one event per week/no alts kind of thing. In fact, I think I will do just that. _____________________

i've been going to a few good trivia games, but would also like to see more. with sl saturated with clubs, slingo, & tringo events, the trivia is a nice change. here are some that i've been enjoying:
payment podium at the shelter - fantabulous! also hope they bring the new wheel of fortune one into standard rotation. triana's music trivia - usually on sundays (i think) golgotha firing range and some random others that, unfortunately, i can't remember the names of. i usually do an event search for "trivia". i think triana does the best job making it as fair a contest as possible. rather than it being a speed typing contest, she has a buzzer. so whoever rings first, gets to answer, rather than whoever can type the fastest. i've only been to 1 trivia contest that i didn't care for. they had people IM the host their answers. so the other contestants had no idea what anyone answered. and they didn't tell people what the correct answer was when someone did get it. it made for some very boring trivia. and part of the fun of trivia is learning random facts, which you don't get to do when they don't tell you what the correct answer is. |

Hmmm, buzzer, I read ya Anya, I like that versus having to type the exact answer.
Any scripting gurus out there like to lend a hand with a system like that? Actually, I think it's time for a sponsored contest to create a fun, interactive, fair trivia game system ![]() |

Fantastic. I'm pleased so far that people have enjoyed our non-regularly scheduled trivia. That's certainly encouragement enough to make it more regular, perhaps with themed trivia.

I also host a trivia event at the Shelter, usually Mondays at 6 pm. We just had a contest to come up with a good name for it; Carl Metropolitan won with Brainbuster Trivia. Because it's a "who can type the answer fastest" type game, I know that some people just watch instead of participate, but it's a lot of fun. I usually try to make my questions cover really obscure, odd, or interesting topics.
What makes my event unique is something I created called the "No-Google Bonus." If I have a question that seems really obsure, I start a timer that counts down from five seconds. If anyone gets it right before the timer runs out, I give a bonus point. It's a neat concept, and people have responded well to it. I might extend it to 6 seconds; the idea is to provide a time where people who know it can get rewarded over those who just use Google. Person with most points gets 250L. I'm also designing shirts to give to people who just make it on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, I'm likely cutting back my time in SL to 1 hour a week or so starting in September because of RL considerations, but I'd love it if more people came by. |

Hey everybody. Great to see a demand for triva games in SL. My associate, Kavai Onizuka and I are currently in the process of designing the next "killer game" for SL and it happens to be trivia related. Sometime in the next few days, I will be hosting an open-door conference to discuss features that we may want to introduce in the finished product. I invite everyone to stay tuned and listen for an actual time on that, it'll be awesome, trust me

I run Manhattan Trivia every Wednesday at 6 PM SL time. We only get six to a dozen people, but we still have fun.

Lindenaire
08-06-2005 09:02
At TeaZers Island at 5 times a week between the times of 1 & 3pm we host (Bobby, Helen, Snapdragon Dayton and myself) Multiple games. We still find that we love to host Lindenaire and we do have the "regulars" that attend.
The thing with Lindenaire... is we like to have many different questions and that requires time and changing of the cards regularly. We as a general rule try to do this on a regular basis. We started doing "TeaZers Games, Games, Games" ... so watch for it ![]() |

Jeopardy in Voti Returning Next Week
08-18-2005 00:16
Hi, Reginald! Arjan and I took a break from hosting our weekly Jeopardy event because of summer schedules, vacations, RL etc. We hope to return to hosting next Thursday at 11AM GameTime. As in the past, the 3 top scoring contestants will win prizes ranging from skins, clothing, furniture, avatars and food dispensers. And yes, since Linden no longer supports non "educational" SL events, we rely on the kindness and generosity of our friends and merchants of Second Life, which include Simone Stern, Munchflower Zaius, Jennyfur Peregrine, Lindsay Roark, DavidDM Thereian, Eos Zander, Yanne Proudfoot, Hensonian Pennyfeather, Mae Best, Elaura Wishbringer and many others, thank you so much, everyone.

Is it Knot Nifty?
08-18-2005 01:04
"Knot Another Quiz" in Montmartre has been on Hiatus while the resident spider was out of SL for a while for RL reasons. She's back, still too busy to run quizes at the moment, but I expect they'll return eventualy.
