The Amazing Race In SL?

I love the show!

For those of you who dont know the show its a race between teams of 2 around the world.
there are 12 teams and they all race around the world to do tasks and complete whoever gets to the checkpoint last maybe eliminated.

After there is only 3 teams left then they compete whoever comes first wins a million dollars.

This game will work in SL, i believe back then i saw this game on the events list.


We can set up events for this game.

It would be nice if there was 12 camera people who were filming each team.

Umm & if I need to get another area by just flying & teleporting?

Rules would be no teleporting no flying.

I've wanted to do this for a while, but, it would require quite a bit of work.

Many reality games/shows would work in SL, but all would have issues based on the omnipotent nature of avs. Amazing Race's structure/design actually seems to have the least of these issues.

As to teleporting, flying - this could be easily mitigated with an attachment that would track such things. Also, if 'filming' the show with a camera person that travelled with each team, using forms of transport not allowed would be easy to watch.

The big issue with such games may be IMs, and people contacting/talking with one another in a venue outside of SL. In some reality type games - my absolute favorite being The Mole - this would actually be a showstopper: difficult to manage a competitive game based on secrecy. (This is why I think Big Brother isn't going to work either - goodluck to those attempting it though!)

AR isn't as limited by this - it's much more 'in the now' than other reality shows. Your main concern as a producer of AR would be to make sure if people do contact each other outside of SL or in IM that they record this - however, unlike other shows, if they don't, it's not going to be terribly detrimental to the overall game.

I have a group (if it's still active) called Reality Gaming - it's purpose is to develop things like this. If people are interested, I'll organise a meeting to discuss reality show possibilities in SL further.

I love that show! I'll make the attachment if you like. I'm sure Chad would help out using the nexcom system for contestant tracking along with the attachment.

Well someone could follow the teams around to make sure they dont cheat

Or film them using some outside tools.

The amazing race will have no use for "IM" since they have to actually do stuff..


Example : Build a identical prim castle as the one there, whoever does it faster wins. ( IM and cheating will not occur)

Go to a destination and find the clue box... that is hidden.

And use of transporation could be someone with a SL airplane taking them back and fourth in the grid, with flight times just like in the RL show...

In the RL show there is a third guy in the group he dont show since he is filming them, but he is not competing lol just making sure they dont cheat and filming them.

I think the Amazing Race has more ways to make it work in SL then big brother.

Tons of activities to do in SL

- Bowling
- Skydiving
- Climbing
- Jumping
- building stuff
- taking quizes, trivias
- playing a round of bingo/sling/tringo
- driving in a race track 20 times whoever is fastest gets clue first.. lol

and SOOO many more

stuff like that, thats why SL is the perfect platform for this kind of game.

I have to agree with you wuvme I think that SL would be great for AR. I had also thought about doing a car rally in SL. I would be willing to work with others on these projects. We should all set down and talk more about this.

suggestion for tasks: lag racing! try to run 10 meters with sim time dilation down to .01. first one to cross finish line wins.

Task 1-

Climb a 50m high hole in the ground close to a sim edge. This task is very easy to do but could take some time because the land is set to :: No fly, No Objects, No Scripts:: and the hole is a small space which could make your view difficult to see.

Detour

-Fly

Travel 8 sims by a taxi to the "Abbotts Airspace" and purchase a parachute, and skydive off a plane... must land within the target to get a cluebox. The Task is easy but if you dont land in the target you will have to repeat the task over again.

-Walk

Travel 6 sims by a taxi, walk/run 5 sims long to get a clue box, the task is simple but could take some time and coordination skills are required to find the hidden clue box.

Grab the clue, travel 2 sims to find a warehouse where they will solve the puzzle and find the name of the sim in which to drive to, there will be a pit stop and the race will stop for the day.. and continue another day, the last team to arrive maybe eliminated.

This is just an example of what this could be.. alot of fun..

This would be more fun if we had "camera" men recording the teams so we can see their struggle hehe

We would just need a good video "Editor" to put it all together so everyone can watch it

this does sound like fun! I hope you can get past the "superhuman" abilities. Even if one is not allowed to fly, they can (almost) always right click > sit here ... so asuming you can get past the problems stated, it really sounds like fun! Keep us updated

What we need is to come up with a way.. this is gonna be really good and im hoping to get some ppl who have skills on how to capture videos and put them together.
This will be more fun with "Voice" overs and camera people filming the teams.

of course we will just do a "Try one" with chat just to see how things go lol
The new features is suppose to improve some camera angles.

If we ever do a good one, it will be filmed and with voice overs as well as editing..
(Remenber we will need 12 camera people one for each team)

The camera guy will IM the producers of the show and tell them where the teams are at, and also film the task...

The camera guy will also ride in with every team, they must not help the team at all, and they will be watching for any cheating that goes on in the game.

(Sit here, fly when the tasks says fly, and if the team does cheat they might be eliminated)

Actually, out of all 9 seasons, only 2 had 12 teams! But Yeah, I'd love to be on it. Great idea, reality TV incorporated into SL is such a good idea, and I'm excited to see people doing it.

Alright, I've recreated my old Reality Gaming group with the basic charter of "Developing and encouraging the devlopment of 'Reality' type games within SL." I've sent out a few invites for it based on this thread. If anyone else would like to be involved, reply here, or contact a member in world.

We'll try and setup a meeting sometime to get things underway.

Hey guys, i have been messing around with video taping and stuff and i got myself in a "Newbie" spot in the video editing..

Im using Fraps to take the videos and Sony Vegas 6.0 to edit the films.

Please understand inorder to film all teams we will need at least 12 camera ppl... lol

Also.. we need to make a group meeting soon to discuss, i have TONS of task ideas.. and stuff, but we need to concentrate on "Filming, Camera angles" and editing.. The other stuff is banana.
