The legality is fairly obvious if you look up rulings on Copyright and Trademark law. Dont use exact names, Dont use exact graphics, Dont try to mirror too closely key identifyable traits that are unique to the competition.

Making a game system similar to another has always been and always will be legal. Otherwise SNK would never have created fighting games to compete with the original Street Fighter series from capcom.

Using similar ideas is legal as long as you dont steal or EXACTLY mimic proprietary content. Just having various categories of stats to track on the hud cant be copyrighted either. Otherwise Dungeons and Dragons would be the only game allowed to use Strength, Dexterity and Constitution as player attributes.

Stick to doing all the work yourself and come up with unique game name and dont steal artowrk and everything will be fine. Ask a friendly know-it-all forums lawyer if you dont believe me.

If i was in your state of mind Rick, i'd keep this idea flowing, but make it a little more apparent....like food...why does it only last 1 meal? If i was drinking a beer, it would last me a number of sips before it was trash. Think about ways we can turn meals into lasting over several uses, or how spending time on furniture could benefit us. There are plenty of ways of turning TSO into a modernized SL game without crossing the illegal boundaries.

My example with the beer, say it lasts 5 sips. Your avie attached to hand will take one sip every game hour within sl, or you can make it a clickable food item, that takes a sip on your command. That way before its done feeding you, you get a certain number of food potential out of it.

One idea i like with this is making a experience system along with the bars. If you eat alot of virtual food, it should also increase your potential of needing more food to fill up later on. Oh well thats nuff outta me. Lata

Why make SL more real? I'm annoyed at the amount of RL-copying that's already present in SL. Or do we really need more sub-urban homes to protect our AV's from non-existent weather?
The fun part of SL is that you can make and do things you can't do in RL.

For me personally... I am amazed at myself.. I played TSO for over 2 yrs....I left it to go to SL and I do not miss it at all. The only good thing I can ay about TSO is.. I never had this many problems with logging in, crashing, being knocked out of game for hrs on end. Anything even close to TSO being in SL doesn`t interest me at all. ( Just MY thoughts and opinion )

I love the sims2/tso/sims....but in sl? I would really like to see the sims 2 online but well I dont know maybe if you got your own sim and gave out huds that would be neat. I think its a really cool idea as long as it doesnt effect the rest of Sl.

oh ya, definately the number one priority to keep it to itself. No spam, nothing visible on the avatar, no effect on others, can turn it off for yourself at anytime.

Go for it --- I think that's a great idea. If you ever get to it --- contact me as I run a few major TSO sites. I'll give you some free advertising!

Is this all about the sales tax

Ok this would create a real economy in SL and a real government that levies taxes on sales. But nobody can be forced to stay in SL if there is a competitor that works just like SL works right now. So if you don't currently own land in SL you can just move to the competitor.

The first signs of creating a real economy can be in the form of property prices dropping. Which can snowball into some kind of mass exodus.

Remember I am paying real money for virtual food. This does not make much sense but I am willing to do this just to be in the company of my friends which I can do elsewhere. Besides I still have to eat and sleep and pay taxes in real life. Why would I want duplicate my burden.

So a natural extension of this is that flying will be much more tiring than walking. If you fly you need to eat more pay more etc. Winters could be cold in SL and we would need to heat our houses. Natural gas prices will go up in winter etc. If you dont own or rent a place you cannot stay on the premises etc etc. Ok they could all be done and may work. But I would move to the competitor.

just in case it wasn't clear, this is a game attachment, NOT a proposal for something Linden Labs should add for everyone.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt :)

I have a working TSO bar thing already that does the meters and depletion, as well as a basic furniture set that does the emptying. If anyone wants to try it out, just ping me in game.

You might consider a separate money system, rather than charging $L for everything. That way, someone could make an item, e.g. a snack, that would be "free" in $L, but would cost some funnymoney in this game-in-the-game. I think DarkLife does (or did) that, with "gold." For people without the HUD on, they could get the item normally, but it would only have the effect on the HUD bars if it were purchased while wearing the HUD. Something like that.... it would be easier to balance your economy this way, too.

I don't know as I'd ever play this, but I'd be willing to set the Flying Ice Cream Truck I'm working on so its frozen treats gave Sim Health or whatever. It'd be cute.

Well I think this would be the greatest!! I loved tso but it got boring and needed better qualitys..like SL. So I think combining them togeather would be really cool. It would start familys and restaurants and stores and homes! I would love to contribute to this too..I will IM you in world. I loved how you had to sleep in beds and eat and what not in TSO that was my favorite part..OH AND WORKING..I liked the jobs they were really fun. Maybe jobs will start to come up or something and make it more fun.
