Is anyone else getting these very annoying lockups when building?

It seems to happen when the editing window is open, you make a change to an object and then try to press the X to close the edit window and the whole game locks for anything between 5 and 15 seconds. :(

Yup. I found even selecting an object can cause it too.

I'm having this problem with every window. Having it with IMs, having it when Buying, searching etc, except it doesn't lock up temporarily. It won't respond to clicking at all, but I can still types stuff, navigate that window with the keyboard. I have to relog to fix it 5 or 6 times a night.

This happend to me 4 times last night, 3 of which it did not recover and I had to force a shutdown of SL. This problem should have been caught, if the Lindens had used the editor for 15 to 30 mins when checking the software before releasing it.

The freinds list showing all your freinds as off line is bad but I can work around that. But when the mouse clicks are being ignored as well as all the keys, except for control key combinations and the Tab key, SL becomes to frustrating to play.

I would have expected LL to have posted a comment on this problem by now, But I don't see one.

I had this soooo times last night, when building, when scripting, when setting prices for "for sale" land. Pretty ubiquitous. Pretty damned annoying.

The first 4 or 5 times I logged out because I thought SL was fully locked up. Then on about instance number 6 I was telling my partner how frustrated with the whole damned thing and it came back to life. Thereafter I just waited 10-12 seconds each time because believe it or not that was less frustrating then a logout/login cycle. Finally I just gave up and read a book.

Ugh.

This seems to be a side-effect of the fix for the bug where you couldn't select text off the edge of a text box and have it scroll. Now, you can, but the textbox completely eats your mouse sometimes. It seems to happen when you hilight a text field after the focus cursor was already in it.

To get out of this, you can press escape a bunch in edit mode, or just click your mouse in the text-box in question.

Spot on with the diagnosis, but your solution does not work (at least for me). Turning one of the arrow keys will get you out of the edit box, but nothing will unfreeze the interface in my experience.

I don't understand how a basic problem like this that stops one from doing the most basic thing in SL (building) is not even mentioned by LL. This is causing me to reboot five or six times an hour while building and should be considered a "show stopping" bug deserving of an immediate patch.

I get the feeling that not only aren't the developers staying up late trying to fix this one, we'll be lucky if they bother to include it in the next patch.

I have also had the interface stop responding to the mouse.

Ugh glad to see it's not just me who's having this problem. I've noticed this since the newest update, though I have never actually crashed or never recovered from it (yet)

It's like the screen freezes for 5sec to -5min, like one would expect during a server outage.

This is just the tip of the iceburg on things they have managed to "fix" in builder tools.

Same thing happening to me - but I haven't had to re-log.

Just minimizing the SL window and then expanding it allows me to interact with the internal windows again.

Playing in windowed mode - not sure if this will work for those using full screen.

I've had it happen multiple times while bulding today.

As far as i can tell, it can happen when i select one of numeric fields, change the numbers in there and confirm with either Enter or Tab... the only way to 'unstuck' the interface is then to click on one of small buttons that switch between build panel modes. (select, create, edit land etc) The click doesn't actually do anything, but after i do that the interface 'realizes' it should highlight the button my mouse is hovering over, and once that happens it's good to go until another lockup >.<

I have also been having this problem since the latest "upgrade"

I posted a complaint in forum and a bug report but was told to Email the steps it to to get the problem to Torley Linden. Perhaps if everyone Emails Torley they will realise it is a problem and do something about it quickly

Then again they may just ignore it like all the other bugs that seem to be building up into a totally useless interface

Add me to the list. Sometimes I can't recover from this freeze up and sometimes I can. But it's really annoying and is seriously disrupting my experience with SL.

It might be helpful if we could at least get some acknowledgement that the Lindens are seeing this and intending to do something about it.

Is it possible that some the screen delays have something to do with hovertips?

I got this last night too while building.

I also noticed my up right corner gage was yellow and red most of my time in SL. I had my bandwith at 500 so I upped it to 1000. I was green for a few seconds then it popped right back up to yello at 882, 889, 925.

Wednesday seemed fine for me after the patch I even commented to my BF that everything was loading so fast, rezzing in etc.
Last night was total opposite, slooooooooow and then the lock up - I had to restart my PC to unlock.

I've been experiencing this too and I think I've found a quick way to unfreeze the UI. Either minimize the Second Life client (by clicking on the taskbar button) then restore, or Alt+Tab to another application and back again. Works for me. :)

I've been "paying 0 lindens" to get out of "pay" dialogs, because the only thing I could do to get the dialog box to go away was hit enter.

Your workaround doesn't help there, alas, because I can't bring up the edit box when it's stuck.

They REALLY REALLY need to go back two or three revs in the user interface code, back before they broke chat, and if they want to completely redo the UI set up a 1.13 or 1.14 preview for it until they have it right.

Looks like a text-select bug to me. When you click in edit boxes and the text gets selected, that's what triggers the freeze. I've noticed it when building (specifically when changing values in edit mode), and when altering text in the About Land dialog box.

The method in my last post in this thread instantly unfreezes the UI, so you shouldn't have to wait 10+ seconds any more when it happens.
