How about restricting access to paying customers until the stampede is over?
Yes, I cross posted. I want someone's attention.

Remember that there are many many people who are on basic accounts but who rent from someone else. They are contributing just as much to LL as some premium accounts, just not directly.

Yeah same here. My Wife can also log on however she's invisible and her av wont completely load even after like 10 minutes. Plus logging in takes like twice as long. If I knew SL was gonna have soo many problems I would'nt be a paying customer. Seems to me the more $ I put into the game the more problems there are, making me lose out on my investment.

Any good Christian would be a paying customer.

I doubt this would actually change anything. The login server wouldn't know whether you're premium or not until after you've logged in already.

It would reduce the load on the grid as a whole, but it wouldn't make logins go any more smoothly.

It's moot now anyway, with all the in world problems.

Steele-

Resident answers if for asking other residents for help...

You need Linden help to accomplish this request, not much we can do to help except agree or disagree.

Perhaps add it to the feature voting tool?

Please, everyone, give up on the unverified issue. You aren't going to change Linden Lab's stance on offering Second Life to the the entire world and I applaud them for making this bold move.

Signed. Noone "pays" to access First Life, why should anyone have to pay to access their second?

But you do pay rent, pay for food, pay for clothes, pay for gas, pay for entertainment, pay for medical care, pay for well... even air (taxes).

You don't pay for food or water, you don't get access to first life.

This was just specific to the 'restricted login' period during the stampede to get back online... not banning unverifieds for good...

Strangely, in my nice new little house on my first land at 4.00pm PST this appeared to actually be happening. I logged in and rezzed just fine but my partner standing next to me on verified but free, couldn't even get her hair to finish rezzing. Just coincidence I'm sure. Not suggesting it's actually implimented.

Because your first life isn't entirely owned, run and maintained by a (theoretically) profit making private company?

This isn't a bad idea actually. Paying customers should have a higher chance at logging in during large loads but free accounts have to wait for a opening. I've played a few games online that do this. It would add some value to premium accounts and could get me to go back to having one... Theres no reason to be premium unless you own land on the mainland or need that extra linden a week. Sim owners don't need it. It needs more value. :p

Well how would you propose distinguishing between "premiums" that pay $9.95 monthly to LL and paying customers that are "basic" but paying plenty of tier on private islands for example? This is just one example of how this is not a good idea at all IMVHO.

You wouldn't. They don't pay LL.. they pay their estate manager, who in turn pays LL. It's a non-transitive privilege.

Of course, there could be a layered system, depending on how many or how few residents LL wants storming through the gate:
  1. Premium + tier
  2. premium w/o tier
  3. Verified (paid for basic)
  4. Verified (paid for lindens)
  5. all other verifieds (are there any other kind?)
  6. all unverifieds/everyone.

Jon - that would make you like many, many others in SL ;) When people talk about "free" acounts, they might be meaning "unverified" accounts I am guessing. "Free" does not equal "unverified" and "basic" does not equal "free."

Anyway, it's a moot point :D

Yeah, its owned run and maintained by thousands of profit making private companies.

And wow, I've heard of bad ideas being suggested, but... wow.
