Dear Linden Labs:

WHY AM I CRASHING EVRY TIME I LOG IN SINCE THE NEW UPDATE????????

I currently can not play the game because since yesterday's update the game crashes everythime I log in. I typically am in the game from anywhere between 5 seconds to a few minutes before the game crashes. There does not appear to be any single type of in-game action that triggers the crash.

I have the latest drivers for my hardware installed. I have an excellent top-of-the-line, high-speed cable connection that is working fine. I rarely crashed in the prior version of SL.

This all started for me yesterday: first in the morning on the preview server and then again in the afternoon on the regular servers after the update.

I have now submitted over 100 crash report logs! I have had four talks with tech support by phone and after each tried something new. I have tried EVERYTHING that I can think of to adjust. I have reinstalled all the latest drivers, turned down all performance options. turned off anti virus, anti-spyware, uninstalled/reinstalled, cleaned up my disk and registry, no local lighting, shortened draw distances. lowered detail, etc., etc Yet I still can't play. Prior to yesterday's update I rarely crashed.

This is exremely disturbing not only because I immensley enjoy the game, but also because I literally have thousands of US Dollars invested in in it.

This morning the problem has gotten worse for me as I am now crashing as soon as I log in. I am not even able to start to sell-off the thousands of dollars worth of land that I own in SL and which is now useless to me since I can no longer play.

I pay hundreds each month to LL for the right to play SL. A glance through these forums shows that many others are experiencing this issue. I find the absence of any recogniiton of a generic problem by LL to be the most distressing aspect of this situation.

Hi Hok / Linden (do I really think they actually look at this forum...),

I and many others also share your crashing issues (see Crashing in New Version Post ) and looking at your system spec I'm wondering if there may be a trend to the crashing (or it might just be a coinsidence) with our hardware configurations;

My Configuration:
OS: WinXP Pro (v5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600)
System: NVIDIA / AWRDACPI / X86-based PC
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 17/11/2005
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2400Mhz
Grafx Card: 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT (SLI)
Physical Memory: 4Gb

Shjak Monde's Configuration:
I have a brand new AMD 64x2, dual core processer, running Windows XP Media Center version 2005. 1 gig Ram
Graphics Card is an Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT 256mg

Hok Wakawaka Configuration:
Windows XP SP2
Velocity Micro Gamer's Edge PC
Nvidia 256 MB 7800 GT
AMD Dual Core 3800+
1 Gig Ram
Hi-Speed Cable (direct connectiion)

Is this a cause do you think nVidia 7800 GT's and maybe the AMD Dual Core's ????

I wish someone from Linden would actually let us know if they are investigating this at all.

Hello Nicole:

Dunno about this. Although it does appear somewhat suspicious, 3 PCs does not a hardware conflict make. I suspect a survey of other Crash Victims could show similar clusters of other vid cards, none of which would necessarily mean anything.

When I first signed up tp play SL I had the same PC and Vid Card as now. Despite my PCs fine gaming specs, I was not able to play SL. I had a frame rate of like 1 frame per 2 minutes lol. (I was not able to play until the last major update which occurred 2 0r 3 months ago).

At the time that I ws not able to play, I read a couple of forum posts by peeps who also could not play the game. So I naturally concluded that my card was the problem. However, I later read posts by players who were reportijg excellent results with the 7800. So that theory went out the window. I still don't know what the problem then was. i only relate this as a caution about jumping to conclusions based only upon a few reprts without any underlying explanation relating the cards to the crashes.
