I've installed the latest graphic driver for my Inspiron 5150 running XP and I cannot stay in SL more than 30 seconds before everything freezes. I've tried everything I can. Any help?

Same me... have tried since the grid came up... got latest Nvidia drivers and clean installed.. still crashing somewhere between almost instantly to after less than a minute.. then you have to wait to be logged off... no 'report crash' dialog anymore (I wonder why that is!!). All that and I'm on my own pretty much empty island !!!!
This is just unworkable. |

For those crashing near-instant, please confirm the height of your home or initial login.
I'm able to repro a near-instant crash almost every time upon logging into my home point, which happens to be at 300m. I know I've got current drivers, I've been playing Oblivion and its paramount for that too. ![]() My PC specs are here, under desktop (current): http://sungak.net/weblog/computer_specs/ Filed as bug number 294206. --Alan :link: _____________________

I'm on a powerbook G4 - at work I get this the whole time and assumed it was a firewall issue, but at home was fine pre-update. Now, crashing at work and crashing at home...

I am also having crashing problems, however i am not crashing instantly.
seems it waits for me to do something (like placing a texture on a prim). My home is 700 meters up, so not sure if that is having a problem, because I have a friend there that is also creating things and they are not Crashing. I have a brand new AMD 64x2, dual core processer, running Windows XP Media Center version 2005. 1 gig Ram Graphics Card is an Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT 256mg Updated all drivers for Windows XP and the Graphics Card Last Monday. so unless they have even newer drivers since Monday, I should have them updated. I just need to figure out why I am Crashing and my friend is not crashing. any Help would be appreciated. Shjak Monde |

Same problem here.
I contacted SL Support about it as soon as it happened. Had a lengthy back and forth e-mail session with them, sending my SL logs, trying to fix it. I ran the previous version of SL just fine.. but SL Support insists that SL doesn't support my video card (which is an ATI Radeon 7000). But if that's the case, why did it work in the previous version? The first e-mail response I received about the problem, simply stated that all I needed to do was update my drivers, which I did. After that didn't work, I went back to e-mail them again, to say that I was still freezing after login, (different Linden this time responded) they told me that SL doesn't support my video card. So, I have no idea.. I appreciate SL Support taking their time to try and help me, but if anyone figures out how to stay in-world, please post! |

That is the standard Linden Response when they dont know what is wrong or dont want to be bothered to take the time to find out. Odds are, the person didnt even know what video card you have. |

Yep, that's what it seemed like..
Short, blunt e-mails.. kinda like "we have better things to take care of, bugger off." *sigh* |

In an effort to fix my crashing issues I have performed an uninstall of my nVidia drivers (also DriverCleaned within Safeboot) and reinstalled 3 different versions of WQH, Latest Public, Latest Beta Drivers.
Each time the same SL crashes following clicks, dialog changes, flying or just standing still it seems. I've tried to get the graphics drivers to work so much that I actually killed my system. I am writing this note now from a completely FRESH install of WinXP sp2 with all latest Windows Updates & just the basic software needed to use Second Life; - Antivirus - AVG 7.1 - Firewall - Outpost - Quicktime v7 And if Linden come back that my system of graphics card is not supported then I think I'll just have to file a law suit on them as my system is pretty much a new build with hardware within the top 10% of hi-end system specs; OS: WinXP Pro (v5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600) System: NVIDIA / AWRDACPI / X86-based PC BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 17/11/2005 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2400Mhz Grafx Card: 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT (SLI) Physical Memory: 4Gb Plus Linden must have somewhere in the region of about 30 crash reports from me for the past 12 hours... and obvioously no comment in any forums other than the stock 'get latest drivers' - WELL WE HAVE and it STILL DOESN'T WORK for some of us !!!! ![]() |

I had problems too, until I installed NGO drivers for my gf6800le. Main symptom that sl will crash: random triangles on screen. After installing NGO there was no random trangles. Now after update they are back. I think this could be some problem with gf card memory management. After adding flexiprims and shadows they could screw something in their opengl code.

Honestly I am getting disappointed by this. I have friends that have been affected by this and it is obviously something on LL's end becuase THEY WERE FINE FOR HOURS AND NO SYSTEM CHANGES OCCURED. Suddenly they are no long able to stay on. One has sent every crash log, asked constantly in Live Help for assistance, and spoken with Lindens. From what I am hearing straight form her is nothing short of rude, generic, lazy, and uninformative. Now I have ahd problems that have taken a month to resolve with LL and I can understand it....if I don't feel like I'm getting hosed. I'm not even the one with the prolem and not only am I feeling inconvienced but I am feeling hosed by it.

I am constantly crashing also. I can't stay in-world for longer than a minute, more or less. And my computer is pretty bad-ass.
Update: I just did a driver update and everything seems to be working fine now. _____________________

Re:Crashing in new version

No solutions here, gokhan. I'm running close to the same setup with my laptop and was told after sending in my crash log it was my video card. I've noticed that the recommended level for video cards is now 128 MB. I've also been the route today of finding out that laptop video cards can't be replaced, they are part of the motherboard.
It's an answer, just not a pleasant one. For those of you updating your drivers. Just wondering if you first uninstalled your old drivers before downloading the new one?
If not, the new drivers most likely will not work correctly...if at all. |
