With the last couple of updates, I've been unable to click and drag the map around reliably with my Wacom tablet - it skitters out of control, often moving at high speed in the opposite direction. If I use the trackpad on my laptop, it works as expected.
...
Several months ago, I submitted a bug report and
posted about this issue while testing for version 1.7 preview. I got little response from the community, and no response from Linden Lab. The tablet map-scrolling behavior has never worked the same since.
However, I've discovered that scrolling the map with my tablet
does work.

The interface behavior got changed from what we were used to, probably unintentionally. If the change was intentional, no one bothered to inform us even though the issue was raised.

This new method of getting around the map doesn't require multiple click-drags, just keep your stylus pinned in the center of the map and gently drag the map in the directions you need to scroll.
Try this:
• Open the map.
• Place and hold the stylus against the tablet in the exact center of the map.
•
Without lifting the stylus from the tablet,
gently drag the map in the direction you need to scroll.
• The further you drag away from the center, the faster the map accelerates.
•
Without lifting the stylus,
gently return toward the center of the map, scrolling slows and stops when the stylus reaches the center.
• Continue dragging in any direction you wish to scroll while keeping the stylus close to the center of the map.
Tips:
• When opening the map for the first time, your yellow position marker will be in the exact center.
• If you've scrolled your yellow marker out of center and lifted the stylus, use the N/S and W/E indicators on the edges of the map to help judge center.
• With practice, you can drag further from center to accelerate the scroll, then quickly return to center to slow or stop scrolling.
• Just remember, the
center of the map is key for both starting and stopping the scroll motion.
I hope this works as well for you as it does for me.

I actually prefer this new scrolling method over the old way, as I find I can get around the map much more quickly and efficiently. Now that I've posted this, Linden Lab will probably return it back the way it was.
