Ben stated "Another new feature allows estate owners to download a region's "RAW" terrain file, modify it, and upload it to make changes in the land."

Any info on how to actually do this? Where is teh RAW file, what can be done with it and how, what program would be needed to edit this, etc. Sounds like a great feature without any information on how to actually use it.

katykiwi,

I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will come along soon, but remember reading on the SL Wiki that a .raw file can be read by Photoshop. The .raw file format consist of many different layers that affect various land properties. The dimensions are 256x256 with each 'pixel' corresponding to a 1mx1m square on the SIM.

If my memory serves me correctly, the height of the land is defined in one of the layers by RGB values being all the same, e.g. if you wanted part of the land to be 25m then you would colour that part of the 256x256 image with a RGB value of 25, 25, 25. Likewise for 120m you would colour it with a RGB value or 120, 120, 120 etc.

There are a few other layers in the file, that I can not remember the details.

I can't find the SL Wiki entry describing this, but remember reading this a couple of months ago.
