I'm affraid this color setting and feature is hard encoded into SL executable. I went thru and changed everything to 20% alpha value which made the whole interface very ghostly. But that darn Context Shadow thing is still prevalent. If anything it is a texture applied to a stretchy box. So it may be one the textures in the viewrart.xml file.

The only texture it could be in this case would be the gradient, which is an invisprim texture and also key in other client rendering tasks, changing it or removing it is a *bad* idea (changing / removing it from there would break invisiprims & screw up land rendering).

@coco

You could be right, *edits* (my small comment by far did not do the subject justice, a tomb could be written on the topic; that would not be appropriate for the forums).

Someone asks about where Eep is and I can't respond? Not even to post a link to his website? My intention was not to start a discussion on this (and intention is a significant factor in the reading of the Private Discussion rule).

The eye rolling was not directed at anyone specifically. If you PM i will explain the eye rolling.

not opaque. my bad.

The edit panel was becomming opaque and the cone was transparent on top of it. Dark opaque grey panel, with a darker triangle overlayed over it and the text etc on the panel.

What really irritates me though is that dragging the texture floater around makes the cone follow it.. so if my object is being covered by the colour/texture floater's default position.... (happens a lot).. dragging the floater to the empty right side of my screen ends up shading my work area with the cone.

this "feature" really needs to go, or it at least needs an offswitch someplace.

I don't mind it but...

it looks like an extremely amateurish attempt at GUI. Kinda like drawing a Chevy logo on your notebook in high school. I'm sure the LL developer is proud of it, but it certainly is not attractive in any way.

If they insist on keeping it, perhaps an opacity slider would help those with a more refined esoteric eye.

Maybe the open source developers will make a bling optional interface client, one that can be customized to have rounded pulsating shapes and no words, for people other than myself, or one for me that looks like windows classic, minus the annoying and completely useless fade in the title bar, and of course that doesn't have that foul pestilence from the depths of hell, the cone of context, because

Cone of Context Sucks!

Hey, they added a setting in Debug Client Settings for PickerContextOpacity ! Hooray, should be in the next release.

Party time!

:D

Actually, just knowing there's a context frustrum lurking invisibly nearby is a bit disturbing.

I just tried it in Aditi, setting it to zero did make it go away... so far. Till the next uninstall.

So that's good! The only good cone of context is a dead one, and now it can be made dead. We can have parties and dance on it's invisible grave.

Now to start in on the tooltips and constantly flashing group IM tabs with the shape changing orange neon bars.

And removing the IM chat from the scrolling proximity chat. Without using chat history.

And adding an "Always Snap" mode for grid snapping a hundred things in a row.

And adding the abilty to have local axes that use meters instead of using the dimensions of the object as units.
