And if you are like me, you actually like to solve problems instead of securing your position by blocking every solution possible.

The first thing that impressed me about your posts was your great sense of humour, the second thing is that you think.

I did manage to find work after a year of recovering from burnout that paid much better and let me work at the blazing problem solving speed I love. For me it was coordinating film shoots. I'm sure there is something out there for you or hell, suffer it out and enjoy your retirement. One thing I've learned about me is that I give lousy advice.
Thank You. In tis case your advice isn't lousy. :)

And Willy, I am the last person who will let Forum madness affect my SL experince, especially since I am at times a contributor to that madness. That's why I take issue with Forum and Game behavior being linked. For me one has nothing to do with the other. Always take my posts with the grain of salt and humor that they were intended, and if there is a message in there somewhere, I apologize. I'll strive to do better next time. :p Here's your Crayons back.

Good advice, I just worry that SL is being represented to the world by a very small and vociferous group of people. And as much as I don't like taking the risk of being trashed here, I do think its important that another point of view gets expressed even if its just for the sake of people who are lurking.

Don't worry about getting trashed. I don't. Sometimes opposing views have changed even my mind. And never lose your sense of humor. Or find one if you don't have one. I think I have one in a freebie box somewhere, look me up in world.....

Well the fact you gave me my crayons back and they aren't all gnawed is a significant thing. Its those guys that put spittle all over them and then return them I gots issue with.

Anyhow I'm pretty silly most of the time unless I am being personally insulted or attacked which makes no sense cause I never consider what I post to be particulary aggressive or insulting (but people like to read between lines sometimes). For a "motorcycle dude" i'm pretty tame and rather square actually and someone even once called me a "prude" cause I have or try to keep my stuff at the PG level and so that's me the square prude geeky motorcycle dude who dares to play with crayons. I have also been told I am a pile of contradictions which is true even I have to admit that :)

I'm getting there. It is a sign of strength when I see the humour. I'm more a doer than a talker so posting on the blogs is always a big step for me and a bit scary. For some reason sometimes it feels like some of the SL blogs are a room full of people yelling and the loudest yeller is the one who is right. I don't like yelling and you are right, laughter is the best of all.

Your description is accurate...but I grew up in New York City so I'm used to yelling. :)

oran imagine how mad you would have been if your browser had crashed while you were posting that :)

Actually I was IM'ing him while he was writing up this missive on MS word, in fact I'm the one who drew his attention to the matter.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one sane enough to see whats going on. Oran's Missive shows me that there is at least one other person.

It was way too long for me to read but if you are protesting the Lindens asking residents to spy into other's bedrooms with the intent of reporting them then I agree with you.

I think that there has been too much noise over this matter and the noise is making us lose perspective of what is really been said.

As I see it, Lindens are ruling for some criminal issues to be banned out of sl. If you're doing nothing wrong you dont have to fear anything.

Do you bring inworld and exchange pornographic pictures portraying a minor in them? I'm sure most of the posters here dont. The ones that do, probably dont even read the forums.
Do you use "black" money to "clean it up" in sl? I guess the answer will be no from most of us, we all try to make some lindens in world to be able to buy clothes, shoes, prim hair, a vehicle or whatever we consider we need. Do you knowingly have sex with a minor inworld? I'm sure that most of us will say NO!

I really think we should stop creating an issue where there's really none if you're an average person. There has been so many threads about all this that it is not being taken seriously anymore, each one reads the blog posts and find a hidden meaning in each word, in each dot, in each comma.

Come on, lets give it a break, lets stop imagining what will happen if..... , lets wait till there are REAL facts and if there's something we dont agree on, then lets talk about it.

Just my point of view. :)

I don't think LL want people to report private play.

I do however suspect they may want to remove the content which enables it to happen.

At the moment, it's possible for two griefers to get together, go to a RL German-themed PG sim, find a group of German residents sitting in a discussion circle, and then quickly both wear child avatars, rez a set of poseballs, and jump on.

The griefers get banned from SL for griefing and displaying adult material in a PG sim - but the Germans potentially get investigated by the police, and maybe even jailed, for downloading child pornography. The only response Germans can have to that is to just not play Second Life.

Now I know the argument against this is "Well, what happens when a country where it's illegal for women not to wear veils is connected to SL? Do we all have to wear them just in case someone from that country is looking at us?" But that's not quite the same, because Germany is not alone in passing a law banning computer generated child pornography; the US may have one too, and the UK is very possibly going to get one. There are also measures afoot in many countries to ban "possession of extreme and violent pornography".

as a mature adult I support the new rules as necessary.

In privet who cares ,but groups and other public places yes strong regulations need be applied.

Quite possibly the best and most level-headed post reguarding this issue I have seen, and I have seen most of them. TY.

So a privately-owned public space for, say, consensual BDSM should be subject to AR despite having conformed to every rule since the beginning?

I don't think all the various people speaking out on this policy are doing so to "make an issue where there is none". I can only speak for myself, but I think that after reading the numerous posts the others who have spoken out against the policy would agree with me on this point: while today the axe is falling on gambling, ageplay (or insert whatever activity you feel is disagreeable/offensive/morally wrong) who's to say tomorrow the executioner's axe won't fall on some activity near and dear to your enjoyment of SL?

I'm a furry. I've spoken out because who's to say that some person or group may find my being in SL is offensive to them and decide to get me or members of my community banned because they don't agree with the furry fandom? If you don't think it can happen check out the unvarnished hatred being spouted against us in the forums on sites like Second Citizen or take a look at all the anti-furry groups in Search next time you're in world. There are a large number of residents who feel we are "perverted" in some way and I've personally been griefed, been called a freak and more. There's little doubt in my mind that a sizeable number of residents want us furs, Goreans, BDSM roleplayers and others who they find outside their narrow definition of "normal" out of SL.

Of course we have the option of leaving if we find LL's rules too onerous, but we speak out because we have invested a lot of time, money, and very real emotions in this virtual world. I've made some very dear friends here and seen and done some amazing thisngs. To just leave without at least speaking out to try to affect change, to make my feelings known simply isn't an option for me. To conclude, I'm speaking out because I care. And because by my speaking out today it may protect you tomorrow.

And much love to Brenda for working a Dune reference into one of her early posts in this thread. And please Brenda, don't compare yourself to Dennis Miller; you're way more amusing than that washed up hack ;)

I think alot of people are not seeing the big picture here. SL is a company and like any company they are out to make as much profit as they can. That being said, SL is getting alot of major attention from very large companies such as Dell, NBC and so on. In order to get and keep clients like that, they are not going to have a choice but to clean SL up. I hate to put it this way but point blank... They are trading in the people who have made SL what it is today for major corps. SL is on its way of becoming more of a buisness tool then what it is today and now the Lindens are starting to form that mold. You see it more and more everyday.

Its all about profit.

The web has never lost big corp bisness becuse of the sex that exists. The sec Industry has made a majority of technologies posible (Any ever see many DVD with Multi Angle and that is part of the DVD Spec, along with VCD, MP3, and other Video tech) The reasons these companys want to be in Secondlife is becuse of the people who are here. If no one loged in to selcondlife but people emplyed by the corperations then the corperations would leave secondlife.

Very small picture view there VooDoo, they are courting Dell, NBC et all passing SL off as a marketing platform (A failed one at that, none of the islands that have been sold to one of these parties have garnered large ammounts of interest. The closest is GM Motorati and thats because it was really built and maintained by residents.... not by GM) now lets go about cleaning up SL and piss off a good chunk of the residents. All of the sudden the whole marketing standpoint goes right out the window as the very people you would market to are walking out the door.

Also from a sheer real estate point of view this will be a failure as well. From my understanding a lot of these "big companies" are paying considerably less than you are I for land per SQM.

Since arbitrary numbers are the name of the game in SL.... lets say we ban Gor, Furry, and all land related to the sex/sex RP market. Think about all that land that goes away. I can think of a dozen sims that would go away, and probably another 100 or more sims WORTH of land that would disapear from the grid as well. On top of that it would make a major impact on the lindex. Why don't we ask how many penis's stroker or Xcite has sold today? Beds?

Trust me my friend, they clean up the sex they will lose a lot more money than some dubious marketing scheme setup on a Dell Island that only 50 residents a day visit.

If you're doing nothing wrong you dont have to fear anything.

According to an ex-KGB officer I worked with (now an IT specialist in the US) the KGB began every interrogation with those very words.

Why do I not find them very much comfort?

I do agree with the people who are saying "wait and see" though, the new restrictions seem to be coming out around the beginning of every month.

I am waiting to see what July and August brings, if recent experience holds true then NO ONE will have any doubt about where LL is headed by then!
