cache redownloading too often

Well, 3 logins since I downloaded Sl 1.9 and have had everything redownloaded twice. What's going on? No cache size (1GB) changes or anything else done so why is SL mindlessly redownloading everything almost each session?? I thought this issue was addressed already? Didn't have this problem last build (or a recent build I can recall). Of course, SL still mindlessly redownloads many things cached in the previous session but now it's redownloading MORE (even got the stupid clouds this last time!).

How does redownloading the clouds manifest itself?

This is how it manifests itself. I cleared the cache, logged in, stayed in one place, notice the white tree in the upper left corner of the top image. I waited a couple minutes until the clouds rezzed and then waited a couple more to let the local cache "catch up" if it needed too.

I logged out without error and logged back into the same place, no clouds again for minutes.

I repeated it a third time same effect, empty sim with perfect stats and very sparse builds. I collected a boatload of statistics. However, given the fondness for throwing away bug reports wholesale and acknowledging bug reports from preview and not doing anything about them anyone who actually cares will have to ask me for the data.

I still love Linden Lab because Robin told me I must.

cache = trash ?
03-16-2006 08:12
Every login in the same place at my home after logging out there all objects are reloading their textures. I have to wait long on every login until all displays correctly.
I cleared the cache several times, no changes, it seems for me cache has become a trash-bin that is emptied on evety logout.....

By the way, this effect I have since the introduction of 1.7, it got better and sometimes worse with every new version, but for me this is not a new effect of 1.9 - hoped 1.9 now would fix it - it's hgetting harder and harder to still 'love' SL: .....

Now, for the first time, the water texture never downloaded after the sim I was in crashed and I came back. The overlap (blended) ground texture didn't download either but this has happened to me before--but never the water texture never downloading...

Edit: OK, after 5 minutes (and no bandwidth activity), the textures decided to finally download. This forum took a minute or so to post this reply, too, so maybe congestion is the reason. Still, SuezanneC Baskerville seems to experience this problem a lot, and SL 1.9 DOES have a cache issue, so who knows... Just wish LL'd test these things better/more...or get some competent PAID testers...

SICK OF IT - cache IS trash
03-20-2006 04:49
I am really annoyed and sick of the texture cache problems !

Every time I relog in the same place at my home land all around has the default tetxures and all the textures are downloading again !

Bandwith goes up to about 600 Kbps and it takes minutes until I see the textures that should be in the cache...

Ad this problem IS not new, I have it since version 1.7 - this should be fixed - like this SL is only annoying and not longer any fun. Why do I pay a monthly fee for land and the right to build if I can't even see it :(

In 1.7 they told us wait, 1.8 will fix this, then 1.9 will fix - do we have to wait for version 3 or 5 or maybe 10 until cache gets repaired ???

And yes, I use actual drivers and also an up-to-date computer .... it is definitely NOT a problem on my side...

Really angry now

There are no cache problems - Philip said so in the townhall - therefore they don't exist.

It's probably your firewall, or drivers, or ISP. Why is everyone always trying to blame LL for their broken computers?

*shrugs* the cloud texture is dymanic, part of the simstate.

My computer isn't broken.
My system is up-to-date.
Even installed SL on a newly setup windows on a clean machine - same ffects.

ALL other software including some 3D Design programs like Caligari trueSpace or 3D Studio Max that need at least the same (if not more) machine power are running smoothly and perfect on my machine.

So - surely it is my pc or myself that is too stupid for a thing like SL.

Thanks for the info.

Much the same here, except for not being angry, my angry center wore out a while back on this, now it's more annoyance and disappointment.

I see those clouds a lot.

To be honest, sometimes the gray rectangular clouds with white outlines are the best looking part of the session.

On the bug reports - I have filed at least a hundred bug reports on gray loading textures.

Instead of fixing the problem , they have waited till the version that the bug report was file for is no longer running and sent me form responses saying their is a new version that might solve the problem.

Most annoying, especially since the new version does nothing to improve things at all.

That's actually a reasonable thing to do. You can reply to keep the bug report active, give more info, and it flushed fixed bugs out of the database.

I don't think it makes sense at all.
Sending hundreds of replies months after the fact when the program that had the problem is no longer in operation is not useful.

I can't reply in a way that makes any sense to those bug reports. I can't go back in time and do anything at the space-time locus where there problem occurred

I don't need any reminders to file new bug reports about gray loading textures. I get hundreds or thousands of reminders every session of SL.

My suspicion is that the bug reports have been marked done or dealt with or don't need action because the version of the program they occurred during is long gone.

Responding on my part to old dead bug reports is likely to be more of a waste of time than filing new ones, i would think.

Argent, the problem is the bugs they're mindlessly automatically replying to have not even been checked, let alone fixed. I got around 15 such replies and only 1.5 were actually fixed (yes, a half of one--the edit object window's tab order only tabs through edit fields and not checkboxes, pull-down lists, radio buttons, etc). Plus, I can't even remember most of these bugs and having only the subject isn't enough; the actual bug submission CONTENT isn't even included in the mindless automated reply (or the initial mindless automated reply after a bug is submitted)! I've bug reported THAT, too...and emailed...and posted in SL Answers, etc...to no avail. LL just doesn't seem to give a shit. Well, neither will I in submitting new bugs!

That is more the feeling I got, it was more like being punished with spam in return for filing bug reports in the past.

You want this fixed vote for my feature fix then.
04-01-2006 22:17
I hate the cache problem too its garbage and should be repaired like many other problems that are left unfixed before new features are added.
You want this fixed then vote for my feature in the feature vote section and they tell me my computer is broken too or needs updates as well / And the all mighty SEND BUG REPORTS / Ok so now I send about one or two a day. Maybe after 1000s of reports they will get sick of it and focus on the broken items in sl and fix them for us.

I use to love second life and now my items I sell are becomeing broken and customers are getting very upset over this. Im told to rescript my items and work around it.
I shouldnt have to they worked fine before they changed something. I didnt ask for them to change it did you?
