Congratulations Linden, you've done it again. Sigh! 1.7 is practically useless. Textures never show up, clothes don't load, movement is erratic and at a snails pace. CPU is running at 100 %, making almost all other work on the PC impossible at the same time. Well, I only have a 4GHz CPU with 2 GB of RAM and a 6800 GT card, so I may be running a low performance system, measured after your scale. Where did you buy your desktop Cray's ??

Raphael! Please read this. The future is not set in stone, or at least not in bones... we can still make it!

Thanks Torley. Sounds promising (even though it's coming from Linden). Perhaps I dare hope for more than the 1.2 fps I have now (eeek).

Welkies Raphael... and I sure hope so too... I've been hit by some bad performance too as I've recounted here, and things have been getting increasingly better with each patch.

After the recent big fixes, it's running pretty well for me. Certain sims have been unusable, but Pigra and others are nice and fast. Some textures are still loading slowly, but most are showing up.

My current experience with 1.7 is this, if I turn off all the more advanced options (Shiny, Local Lighting, Filtering, etc) it runs fine. If I turn them on, its inoperable. 0.Xfps in areas with anybody at all besides myself present. In case you think I must have a junker comp:
Athlon 3500+ GeForce 6800 Ultra 1 GB 2-2-2-5 Timed DDR 400 RAM SATA HDD
Yeah, must be my system huh.

a complete mess

1.7 is a completely tragic mess and should not have been released without being more properly tested
1.7 and its variants so far simply have meant for me that the basics of the game, in seeing the world. moving, flying, creating, performing any functions AT ALL have become UNPLAYABLE !!
( See my thread Too Too Slow - Technical forum)
1.7 once again calls into complete question the entire Update Policy of LL and the entire shaky technical basis on which it is founded. The history mentioned here of semi disastrous version updates followed by weeks of uncertainty, anger, disappointment and lack of Linden feedback of any real value is now entirely what you will have to get used to to stay in this virtual world.
Once again we fall into the same LL trap of pushing a version update forwards to install new gimmicky systems and things yet again to prioritise commercial interests and features mostly geared up to anything BUT the BASIC of the game world.
Launching new ventures like LINDEX also, promoting SL heavily on the web as ' wonderful amazing new graphics.. etc' is a total farce. What I want to see is a complete re examination of priorities by LL, the NUMBER 1 being MAKING THE BASIC TECHNICAL GAME WORK all the time even if that means NO updates until they are PROPERLY tested, and improving the way LL communicates with the people investing 00s of dollars a month to play.
1,7 was deployed many many days ago, and as others here have pointed out yes it gets worse for who knows how long. I have been COMPLETELY UNABLE TO PLAY for nearly 10 days now, but like everyone else long term I am still paying. 1.7 to me is the WORST and most poorly implemented VU in a long time, and currently I see that in effect the only way you can even get in game and see the world is to lower ALL your settings way way below what you had running perfectly well 11-12 days ago.
THAT IS NOT POSITIVE PROGRESS is it?

Second Life's performance hasn't changed all that much for me, fortunately. The textures load slower then usual, and there's an extreme FPS hit when loading new textures. That's about the only problem I've experienced, but it's all fine, otherwise.

Yep, it's been a week now, and nothing have changed, SL still sucks and are totally unplayable, movement is futile unless you are alone in an unused sim somewhere.
Sadly, this reminds me of the late days of URU Live, where it just was molasses and a pain. And we all know what happened to URU Live.
LINDEN! FIX this for gods sake and stop adding new stupid and useless features until we can actualy play the game.
Small increments (improvements) at a time instead of these huge release hops. It gets a bloody mess everytime. I don't mind downloading a new viewer a few times a week if that's the way.
I was in SL a few hours ago, when there wasn't much people around, and it was still slow slow slow. Check these stats below. I've never seen such bad performance before. And, mind you, this was from a low-load SL. Earlier this evening, it wouldn't even have been possible to take these screenshots as I had about 0.2 fps !
