I can't tell you how often I simply listen for the sound of somebody typing, or the ping of an IM that tells me I am wanted/needed in world.

I do mainly textures in SL. That means I am constantly back and forth between SL and Photoshop. Having the sounds of SL cut off when the window does not have mouse focus SUCKS.
