From: Ezequal Torgeson I say patients, if thats too much for you, well, I dont really care. You live and you learn. If your have "intelegent" rebuttle. Dont bother cuz I really dont care and all your doing is wasting server space. If your going to tear me apart for typos, grow up. I'm really not a mean person but its the American theology(?) of bitching to get thier way all the time that bothers me. Quick, clean, consise, and nice wins the day.
So, to put this plainly, you don't care what others may think or feel. Is that supposed to have some import? The attitude in your message does not inspire confidence. You tell us to be patient. Folks have been patient for years. As for the rest of your message-- you're entitled to your opinions, even if you fail to consider the needs of others. I do have to wonder if you're paying a dime to use SL... because if you did, I'd have to venture you'd be more concerned about whether it's working or not. As a post-note-- I never make fun of people for spelling, because I mis-spell myself at times (especially in forums). Folks have different levels of education and some just never learned how to spell correctly. However-- I wouldn't recommend going around and advertising that fact or challenging others because of it. Lack of spelling ability is something that can be corrected with effort. I don't look down on you because you can't spell.. but it's of no benefit to you to wave it under folks' noses.

I have had a 2048 Teir for well over a year, I think that entitles me to a word two, since everything else finds themselvs entitled to the "world". As for the guy who made the correction. Grow up.

From: Wayfinder Wishbringer You know, I hate ... but I also hate ... But then with release 1.7... we see an undoubtedly all-important, immediate need HUD FEATURE which allows people to create HUD devices! Wow, I'm sure that was at the very top of the user VOTE list. I can see how that would surely take priority over giving land owners better sim security tools. We sure needed HUD devices more than major bug fixes! Yeah man, I am SO glad we now have HUD devices! How have we ever gotten along without them until now?
First, drink a beer and go for a walk, and come back when you're not insane. All better now? Okay, then. Yes, it was at the top of the vote list: Prop: 8 - HUD Attachment point: 109 votes/62 voters Note that id: 8. It's one of the oldest propositions, and even now has a respectable number of votes left on it; after 1.7 release, a lot of people probably moved their votes off. Also in 1.7 was: Prop: 10 - Change group recall provisions: 75 votes/45 voters So in fact your whining is totally misplaced, they're doing propositions in land/group management if people vote for them. Prop: 24 - Group land sales: 6 votes/6 voters Huh. Looks like a lot of those land management propositions are just plain unpopular. Here's another 1.7 feature for real users: Prop: 35 - Allow multi-select in inventory: 1405 votes/715 voters It goes on like that. The things that are popular are being worked on. If your pet peeve isn't, that's because it's not popular. If you want an unpopular feature to be worked on, convince others that it's in their interest to vote for it. Maybe that's what you were trying to do with this post, but the way you are going about it is not going to persuade anyone. Hell, I'm gonna go vote up some more client-side improvements, just to annoy you more.

Wow, Kami, I was going to post almost the exact same thing... whew saved me a bunch of typing. BTW, SL is still running great for me and my new land is averaging 30 fps in all directions.

It's nice that your not experiencing problems but some people are. Some people are experiencing horrible sim performance. I don't agree with everything Wayfinder says, but I think that the somethings were poorly executed during this update, particularly the mac client. And this update made almost everyone using Radeon experience strange texture problems. I've talked to enough people using Radeon and it's looking like there's a pattern there. But what I've found is that Lindin Labs does have great customer service. They have been nothing but nice to me, even when I got a little short with them, that's why I think Wayfinder should cut them a little slack. They're trying. They really are.

I'm on a Mac Mini w/512MB RAM, not at all a reasonable system for SL, and it does okay by me. After 1.7, speed increased, but it crashed routinely while editing textures. The last patch fixed that, and it hasn't crashed since. I get 5-15 FPS mostly, down to 2 in high-traffic areas, but that's as good as I can expect from the tiny little thing. And putting X-Flight in my HUD now that hover text displays has been a major improvement for me.

Hehe, it's cool that your able to run it. I'm on an ibook with 1.5 gib ram and my textures have been bloody awful, things blurring in and out. But I hear that's getting fixed on Monday, *crosses fingers*. I'm curious, I know someone who is using the mac mini, and that person is experiencing texture blurring as well, are you experiencing this at all?

An iBook probably won't get much better, it's only a G4. Textures sometimes take a while to rez up, and I see a low-rez version first and then the high-rez, but there's no real blurriness.

What kills me is the textures don't STAY once they are even THERE. The entire world is more or less a gray place, with random bits of things that have rezzed in, and it stays that way for quite a while. But then - something is visible, but you turn around, look back, and it's gone again! And it doesn't matter if these are textures I've seen a thousand times. My skirt ALWAYS disappears. My own signs disappear. The outside of my houses disappear. As do everyone elses. What we have is, for all practical purposes, A PARTLY TEXTURED WORLD. I'll tell ya what I think it is, I think it is what Flipper was trying to explain to me. I think it is those textures which happen to be very low numbers (I don't know the exact terminology) will show up reasonably. But anything higher - well, forget it! It will show up eventually, but then, not necessarily stay there! I call this "the Dumbing Down of Textures." Which basically means, the dumbing down of content. Whatever improvements were garnered by this, I don't care. (If I even could tell what on earth they supposedly are.) It seems to mean what I believe Flipper was trying to explain to me - that the whole game now will be, try to select only those textures which manage to have exceedingly low numbers, and still look half-way decent. Which I conclude means, the selection of textures that can be reasonably used in the world has now become INCREDIBLY SMALL AND LIMITED. That sucks! coco

Oh god, I know what you mean, it makes it that much worse when you finally get things rezzed to just watch them slip through your fingers again. Gah, I hate it, and I've been doing everything I can think of to make the graphics works for me. There's going to be an update on Monday, but it's for textures that don't load not for ones that load and then de-load on us. I wish they would be more specific sometimes about the issues that the updates will address. I wonder if only a few systems are effected. I've talked to at least four people who are having the same problems, but I don't know. Mostly, it seems to be effecting people using Radeon cards, and then they tell you to update the drivers to the omega, which is unfortunately not mac compatiable. I can't win anyway you slice it, lol.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Wayfinder! The replies from the staff of LL bunting the neglect is very poor PR in my opinion. I don't have to add anything to your comments. They hit the nail dead on the head!!

From: Malachi Petunia That is true, but the test grid has 1% of the number of sims as the live grid, uses the same asset server, and people are paying to play, not be testers because LL won't hire more than a couple. I'd be happy to check in to the preview grid pretty regularly even if it only had a couple of sims... IF IT WAS EVER UP.

From: Argent Stonecutter I'd be happy to check in to the preview grid pretty regularly even if it only had a couple of sims... IF IT WAS EVER UP. Preview grid is usually only available prior to the main release and a short time after main release, I believe it was open for about 2 months prior to release on the main grid, august 30th rings a bell for it opening. As far as texture caching problems, if you dont already use the large setting in preferences > adv. graphics give that ago even if your ram is below 512Mb or is 512Mb For textures that are "bluring" or showing their different loading resolutions in and out and your using a 32Mb card then its basically because the scene has more than 32Mb of texures in it and has to reduce the detail of the texture, the textures use a progressive loading and load in 3 or 4 stages each of better quality and will shift in and out freeing up and using more memory as they load in a highly textured area if you use up your texture memory it will have to shify out some detail to load some lower detail texures in the distance, you can help this by reducing draw distance, but at minimum spec 32Mb will load and run secondlife and works perfectly in some areas but you get to a point you just cant cram 70Mb+ of textures into 32Mb of memory
