Just curious, very minor thing... The new map looks awesome, but how often does it update the thumbnail images of each sim? I stuck a terrible, gaudy giant sign up in the sky to see how it looked last night, today I logged in and still didn't see it so I emptied my cache and relogged, and still don't see it. Just wondering at what rate this updates...

I see some schtuff from two days ago... so... I guess it hasn't updated yet. Maybe will be due for a good refresh when some of the current problems are handled.

How high up did you place your sign? It appears that the map is leaving out high altitude objects, probably those placed higher than 256 meters.
(This is probably a good thing or we wouldn't recognize any of the the ground structures at all in the map view because they'd all be covered by the patchwork blanket of skyboxes littering our skies ![]() _____________________

Still other changes I've made aren't showing up, I'm guessing it redraws the map thumbnails at an interval of a few days to a week... _____________________

Hmm if you look at the sim of Pixel Dreams on the map it does show the big black Please Dome which is 300M up. But then again it is huge so that might have something to do with it.

But then again it is huge so that might have something to do with it. 256 was just a guess. I know of builds that are ~ 500 meters up that are not showing and some that are ~ 250 meters high that are showing so the cutoff is somewhere between 250 and 500. _____________________

Hahaha OMG. Yes, I'm okay peoples... and even if I'm not, it's okeydoke, there are more Torleys where I came from (which is specifically called the Fruit Bowl solar system of the Juicy Way galaxy).

I discovered this height limit for the map last night to. I've placed staggered platforms every 50m from about 300 to 600 to try and narrow down the exact height limit. When I get home tonight I'll post my results, unless someone wants to go have a look at Jararwa for me and let me know which the highest one is they can see. The platforms are bright red, and positioned somewhere above my house.
I'd also be very interested to hear how often, and when the map gets updated though. |

I look forward to hearing the results of your experiment, Kermitt! Map hasn't budged/updated for me in about 38 hours now. ![]() _____________________

Thanx for checking Ushuaia. I'm sure it's been over 24 hours now and I'm still not seeing anything on the map either. Now would probably be a good time for a Linden to chime in with some information...

Thankfully it was a false alarm: Torley is safe. But instead of a Linden, or useful information, you get ME, and a useless comment! MUAUAHAHA Ushuaia, please exercise extreeme caution while linking/unlinking Torley - that's what usually happens, and if the parcel isn't auto-return you'll spend a good deal of time flying around finding and retrieving all the pieces! ![]() _____________________

I put the logo for the Shelter hovering 500m up above our build in 50m x 100m glory... but still can't see it on the map. I spent a couple hours getting the texture offsets just right.
Question though: Are textures passed thru to the map, or is is just prims & colors? _____________________

Textures are passed in some way, as my house is correctly colored but no detail, ie the pathways are blue which is the texture color (blue slate tile) but no pattern, while the prim color is white. I have a feeling it takes some kinda average texture color as you notice the roads dont have lines etc.

Yup, I agree with Nathan - textures that aren't tinted (have the color "white" selected but are say, a green grass texture...) appear to have some averaged texture color.

My platforms have finally appeared on the map today. I think that was somewhere around 2.5 days. So I have at least a partial answer. The platform I'm standing on right now, which was the highest that appeared on the world map, is at 350m. To be more specific it's a 10 x 10 x 0.5 platform and it's Z position is exactly 350. The next platform up was at 400.
I'm about to stagger another lot from 350 every 5m to narrow it down some more. 350 seems like an odd height to me. Can't think of any good reason to have a cap somewhere between 350 and 400. |

I salute you on your experiment Kermitt and hope we will have more precise info shortly! Also is this 350 m from the terrain mesh up or an absolute height (as shown in Z-coord I think?)?

I miss the New Objects tab, I used that to clean up the debris left behind by transients in our sim. I'm not sure if the new map shows new objects as white temporarily or if they are in full color right away when the map updates.
Does anyone know if they just eliminated the New Objects feature completely? _____________________

Also is this 350 m from the terrain mesh up or an absolute height (as shown in Z-coord I think?)? Well the object was 0.5m high, and its z co-ord was exactly 350. So that'd mean it was .25 up and .25 down from the 350 center. |
