Well, I guess we can't be accused of advertising / promoting / etc. anymore as the event has already happened, and as how this entire forum is currently filled with crap, I figured I'd post something positive: the review of the first ever live, RL, SL concert! Either that, or we should just rename this forum "trolls, annoying people who hate SL, baseless accusations, polls and conspiracy theories" instead of "General". If it were up to me General would mean "General Interests and General Fun". Fortunately, I don't own LL! :)

Anyway, onto the review - I didn't take any pictures, but if those of you who did could post some with URLs, that would be great!

According to Emerald City, we had 47 people attend, which is my lucky number! When I checked in world, before the start we had over 60, and the only other time I checked, over 80. Drift Monde could provide better data, I'm sure.

All sorts of SL folks attended - from newcomers like Gwydion Nephilim to old farts like Misty Rhodes and myself to everyone in-between. The one thing every who attended I've spoken to has agreed upon was that it was a GREAT crowd. Everyone I met was warm, friendly, lots of hugs, beers and jokes were shared. Speaking of which, I really must give a big thank you to my RL friend Joe Dougherty, who as the attendees can attest to, took care of us with the red carpet rolled out, despite never having seen SL before. He let us have full run of the place, took care of our sound issues, covered the cost of the booze, and it was his RL club, a more beautiful space than most of SL's best clubs.

The musicians were definitely the highlight. If you haven't seen Kourosh, Foxyflwr, Astrin or Flamey G (errr, Flaming Moe!), you should check all four of them out in SL at some point. Kourosh played the music closest to my heart; dreamy, jazzy ethereal warm instrumental music. It reminded me of Delirium or Enigma without the cheesy drum loops. Foxyflwr Cure plays with passion you can't bottle; her set was fantastic, and her guitar sounds so much richer when you hear it coming straight to your ears instead of streamed. Flaming Moe is a natural virtuoso - in case you haven't heard, he's getting his degree in music - and man, this bi-saxual guy can really rip it up. :) Astrin Few commands presence not just on stage, but as a person. He really took charge of the sound side of the event and just willed it to happen. The sound was perfect in the club, and from what I've heard, was excellent in world too. I can't thank him enough for making it happen; his sound tech prowess was impressive.

That being said, when all four musicians were jamming on stage together, it was even more amazing. I've often commented in the past on how cool Second Life is for social purposes; most SLers I have had the pleasure of meeting in RL after knowing in SL have picked up socially right where we left off in world. Its amazing that a medium can reflect our true selves so truly. What was newly shown this past weekend was how four people who hadn't met before in RL (with the exception of Moe and Astrin) could so easily slip into creating beautiful music together. It was seamless, despite the various styles, and rich, and gorgeous, with all four personalities generously donated to the overall soundscape.

A big thank you also to Drift Monde for hosting the SL end at the four corners. It was surreal walking up to one of the many laptops that were logged in from the club behind different avatars and typing ";(This is FlipperPA) How is everyone?" I typed as Hiro, Misty, Nethermind, geez, so many people I don't even remember. I even typed as Sidra's male alt once! (zOMG NAMING NAMES!)

I'm not going to name everyone personally, but I'd like to thank everyone who came out in RL; it was great to see new faces like Firefly Nerd and old friends like Maxx Monde. Thanks to Misty, Sidra and Crucial for the sweet housewarming gifts - we were truly floored by your generosity! Thanks to Hudson, Mizoku and Chris for working on all that cool new video shit we're going to use at SLCC and giving it a dry run - the ServerCave.com folks ROCK, and let me tell you, there are some cool new video treats which will be shown at SLCC 2 this year!

My biggest thank you has to go to my oldest online friend, however, Nethermind Bliss. We've been friends throughout virtual worlds for 11 years now, dating back to the early days of Virtual Places and The Palace; the days when you avatar was 32 pixels wide by 48 pixels high hovering over a web page with comic book text coming out. We had never met in RL before until this past weekend. We didn't miss a beat. She and Jenn immediately started ganging up on me, and I truly feel like I have another sister now; jeez, she even "borrowed" a pair of my vinyl pants (I know how the drill goes, so I pretended to give them to her as a gift, as I know she would have "borrowed" them indefinitely. My RL sister still has a lot of my Lush and Tori Amos CDs). This whole event was her brainchild, and part of the research for her studies. The SLers in attendance were cool enough to fill out lots of questionaires for her; and from I've heard, the answers should be a very cool read!

It was truly a magical weekend. It was everything from a party to an event to a dry run on some new tech to pure innovation. But most of all... it was just a lot of fun.

I'm glad so many could make it, and I'm glad everyone who made it - in RL and SL - did make it. It was fun hanging in both places.

Regards, and thanks,

-Flip

Thank you Flip.. it was a wonderful and eventful evening. I believe the count was 87 at one of the checks I had done. I'm just sad i was sitting behind a keyboard and not enjoying all that free booze.. but hey... we expect bigger things come Fall when we get to do it all over again in San Francisco!

Cheers and hugs to everyone that put this together. I'm proud to be a part of SL and to have hosted 2 of SL's first music milestones!

That show was the most awesome I’ve been to in a long time. All the performers were completely amazing--I’d only ever heard one before the event, and I was amazed at how good they all were. Flaming Moe was smokin’, Foxyflwr Cure sang as hard as a tiny girl like her possibly could and had some awesome guitar sound, and Kourosh Eusebio was simply a genius. I’ve heard Astrin before, and he was just as excellent as ever, there's just no other way to say it.

Aside from the awesome musicians, getting to meet everyone was simply wonderful. A lot of people who I respect and admire were there, and were as great in person as they were online.

I’m fairly new to SL, but despite that I was sure I couldn’t miss that event for anything, and I don’t regret going. I met a wide range of people, and all of them were great and I truly hope I cross paths with many of them again. The whole weekend was a wonderful experience. Now, just to find some way to get out to San Fran when the next SLCC comes up.

It was a fabulous event, the SL build is so realistic and all the musicians did a fantastic job! I even passed on going out in rl to attend this (yah, I love SL too much for my own good), and it was well worth it!!
I live in CT which isn't far from where the event happened and I was disappointed I could not make it in-person due to moving in rl this week (can we say "broke"??), so I hope more of these will be happening in the future and within driving distance!!
Keep it up guys, Live Music in SL is where its at and I support it 100%! Events-wise and entertainment-wise, SL needed this kick in the ass, and thats coming from a former hardcore clubber...you guys bring new life and originality to SL!
Grats to all involved in making this historic event happen!

Wish I'd caught it.

Is there a tape, err, umm, a recording of the music?

I was impressed with all the performers!

Flaming Moe was so good, at times I felt I was just listening to a regular radio station or CD.

I'm going to move this to Notices and Well Wishes, as it seems to be more a Notice/Announcement than a discussion.

I have uploaded some photos to my flickr site. They are dark (my flash wasn't working propertly), but at least you can get a feel of what was going on. Hope you enjoy them!

BOO! Oh yeah, positive threads of interest to the general population aren't allowed in General anymore. If I make this really negative and nasty, can we get it moved back, ZapAmig0? ;)

SuezanneC, it was recorded and we got it on video as well. I'm going to ping a few friends to see if they can handle a Mini DV tape to convert to video soon so we can post it. Chosen, you lurking? Can you or Neural handle the conversion from Mini DV ---> DVD / MPEG?

Thanks again, everyone who was involved! :)

Regards,

I'm sorry! But it was getting reported every 15 seconds and my email just can't stand it! IF you turn it into a discussion about musicians in SL it can be moved back :)

My money is on someone else of the opposite gender. :)

Sidra, the pictures are pretty cool! The dark gives it that "smokey jazz room" type effect!

Here is my two cent vitriole response in hopes of getting this thread moved back to General for Flip :)

Here is a message to all the f&cktards who like to report forum threads for whatever reason get a life you fecking losers. General means generally speaking. Fucking no fun kill joys why don't you go club some baby seals while you are at it. The amount of threads I have seen in the General forum that I thought should have been moved usually are the shameless self-promotion ones. Buy my product is different than here is a review of a show and something og general interest to the folks of SL. But whatever you cant account for all of the stupid people who seem to be influxing to SL thesedays or who have been here long enough to know better, but otherwise are ignorant.

Resmods suck. You fascist bully boys and girls. I mean really who loves the forums enough to police them like little virtual gestapos. Really. You guys are so effing kewl I am envious. NOT.

Oh and I had a good time at the show. :D It was good to see everyone again and actually have conversations which it was hard to do at SLCC. :D

Well I'm not gonna be invited to play anymore now am I? :p

I'm sorry if you feel moving this thread was unfair, Notices and Well Wishes is part of the general forum, its the subforum for announcements and notices (as well as well wishes).

More so in general and not this particular thread and also playing upon flip's emphasis of if this thread was full or personal attacks or whatnot it would still be in general.

This thread, specifically, wouldn't still be in general with or without attacks..

Personal attacks are a weak spot of ResMods however, as we don't have the ability to edit them out, all we can do is close the thread, so you have to weight up the discussion going on in the thread against the attacks, and how bad it will be by the time a Linden can come and sort it.

This thread has spiralled off-topic from the original post, discussing the concert in Philadelphia into a more General discussion of interest to the Second Life community, and thus should be moved back to General! ;)

I was just about to ask for us to get back on topic! It looks like you guys had a lot of fun!

If you want to further discuss ResMods please look for a thread dedicated to the subject, shouldn't be hard..

I hope SuezanneCs tape is up on the big bad interweb for us all to watch soon!

Oh for goodness sake. Did they move it to outer Mongolia? no. does it matter a lot if it is in General--wellwishes and notices etc or General general? Look what you wrote:

From: Jennyfur Peregrine

That would imply that I either give a damn or want to joint the ranks with the rest of the whiners and forum cry babies, which I don't.

Look what Torley wrote:

From: Torley Linden

This thread is not appropriate.
Flaming, Spamming, Trolling – Flaming (posting a message that is intended to incite anger or directly attack a person or persons), Spamming (multiple posts of the same topic or discussion), and Trolling (a post with an intentionally contrary opinion written with the intent of inciting or getting argumentative opinions) are strongly discouraged. If you think your post might be over-reactive, or that it might fall into one of these definitions, please reconsider posting.

snipped...
If someone wants to make a difference, it should be a positive difference. Divisiveness, angry reactionism, Really Redundant Loops--that runs contrary to health and happiness, and is against the Community Standards too.

I saw so much waste today. ResMods did an incredible job helping, and I'm all for frolicking fun and productively discussing serious issues. But still, time spent is time never gotten back: what would you do with that time?

Please... be good to each other folks... I recommend living by example; picking words apart just leads to more bitterness. I'm trying to help Residents inworld and on other parts of the forums right now and I keep coming back to crap like this.

Business-wise: it provides a lowered quality of service for everyone, and personally: it takes my time away from helping others have happier Second Lives.

So the thread moved, transmogrified, etc etc. It's OK, the sun still shines...don't be horrid to Redmods...I think this bunch are doing a far better job, despite people baiting them constantly.
