I have formed a group called "SL is a GAME!".
The purpose of this group is to have a title that says "SL is a GAME!", and by displaying the title and having the group exist and have members, to annoy those who are overly sensitive about the idea that SL is not a game.
This group is open join, and there is no joining fee.

Lmao - not a game? Charge a monthly fee and just watch your player base vanish.
You think Linden Labs do not charge you $14.99 a month out of kindness?

From: someone "Tips_For_Newbies.html", Program Files\help\Concepts - 3. Use physics, light, and scripted objects sparingly, they put a heavy toll on processing power and can slow the game for others. The folks who wrote the Tips For Newbies knew what SL is.

Oh gee whiz! A SuezanneC Baskerville group!?!?! I can't wait to join. Any such group must be a refuge of moderation and reason in this awful world of obsession and drama. Why some people are online in SL for hours and hours each and every day, constantly involving themselves in everyone else's business and playing Moderator of the World!

I could make a group for SL is a Platform also to balance things out.
Nice to meet you, Templar.
"Moderator of the World" is but one of the many fascinating roles one can play in the game of Second Life.

What is a game?
10-27-2005 02:42
I think SL is more than a game since you can start a biznez, earn Lindens and convert them to real Euros (Dollars for you the us-centrics). My personal perception is like making biznez with IRC, MSN, AIM... but in a higher perspective and higher interaction. Not much time until we see VoIP capabilities inside SL, and more complex biznez (like Wells Fargo, Makezine) getting up inside (Yahoo, ...). SL is NOT a game I will start a new group to annoy all these people who blah

I was thinking of writing a very large reply to this, but I decided not to. I'll just summarize it, instead.
Second Life is not a game. It's a chat medium through which we can communicate and generally enjoy ourselves, all together. But that's just my opinion.

One thing I wonder about is why saying "Second Life is a game" seems to exclude anything else, psychologically. I just don't relate to that. I can very well say "Second Life is my favorite videogame" AND "Second Life is a great chat medium" AND "Second Life is a metaverse" AND "Second Life is a better platform than Legos" and so on and soforth. I don't get the need to be so singular with it. That just ain't me.

I am of the mindset that there is room for all. Let LL sort or the good from the bad after all its their job not mine. SuezanneC I don't see any problem what so ever you starting a group with that name as a matter of fact I think its a great idea. Who's to say what is allowed in sl and what isn't? Well LL has the final say and apparently even they are not all in agreement on game vs platform issue. Don't believe me read the lastest newsletter and then look up philips comments. Each cancels the others remarks out. /108/e1/67929/4.html#post709115My personal opinion is this: If you have an account from basic to barron you have a right to define your experience in sl as you see fit. Question from a noob. If SL is *just a game*, what is the object of the game? I can see both sides of which I sit smack dab in the middle. My husband recently started an account, put himself together (you don't know how much I wish I knew his password so I can dress him like I do in rl cause he just looks aweful!lol) and just started wandering around his new world. I sat near by, on the bed, kind of watching and to be there for any questions he might have that I might be able to answer. I noticed him just wandering around, clicking this and clicking that and I found myself saying "That's not yours, you should'nt do that" LOLOL, not that he could really hurt anything at this stage but when I thought about my response, I had to laugh! His response was "Well, it's just a game" and I heard myself :: GASP::: no no no, it's not *just* a game! You don't just go wandering into someone private home in rl so you shouldn't do it in sl!!. Point being we both have very different and personal perspectives of what SL. I can see his side and understand why he views it as such but he also can understand why sl is so much more to some (like myself). To me SL is an extension of my rl. A way for me to do things that I am unable to do in rl due to disabilities. Two of my favorite mantra's in life is "It's the little things" and "Don't sweat the small stuff". I am a breast cancer survivor of 13 years. Losing one of my breasts was small potatoes comparatively so I don't and never have sweated that... BUT.... here's the little thing.... have a pair of nice boobies in sl has thrilled me to no end! I don't really care much how one person views SL. I know what it is for me and that's all that matters. Oh and another little thing that I am sweating that I shouldn't be is.. I CAN'T BLING OFF! see what I mean? that is such a little problem compared to what some others are experiencing technically, but it's annoying the chit outta me! lol.

From: Martin Magpie Why is it those on both sides of the "is a game, is not a game" issue try and exclude each other[?] Just one side, really. "It's a game." can have a few meanings, based on which assumption is being made that was not explicit in the statement. 1. "It's [only] a game." excludes the possibility of it being anything more. 2. "It's a game [to me]." doesn't even address what it is for other people. 3. "It's a game [pretending to be something it is not]." is simply pessimism, but more relevantly - an opinion that does not include differing opinions. "It's a platform." includes the potential for SL to be for many purposes.

********** SPOILERS ********** After passing the Griefsphere stage, if you've collected all 100 gold coins you will enter teh BONUS STAGE, it's called "the forums", and you will immediately be stopped by panicky alarmist "They broke it, 1.7 is THE DEVIL" posts - Ignore them, you cannot kill them, and attacking them only makes them stronger. Use your X-Flight Jump-Enhancer to get over the bridge, but the Trolls will still follow you through the entire bonus stage, the best strategy is to ignore/avoid them entirely, and any the-sky-is-falling posts they may emit. When you reach Linden Castle, the final stage, if you haven't been using any cheat codes the final battle will be TOUGH - Philip will fly down in his Rolling-Stones-emblazoned war machine, you will need to use the rush-jet or springboard if you got it earlier to jump up and onto his head. IF you didn't get these items, he will drop Liasons and you will need to springboard off their heads to attack him. Finally, after you defeat Philip, you will enter a final room where Princess Jeska will say, "I'm sorry Avatar, but your stereo equipment is in another castle!" - Much like the original Sega X-men game, you will need to actually physically reboot your machine at this point (yes, that part threw me off at first too) - After you relog you will then see the end credits and your stereo-equipment should re-rez in your real world home/apartment.

A CURRENT quote from Linden Labs ( http://lindenlab.com/job_cs_guru.htm): "Second Life isn't your standard online game, in fact, it isn't a game at all; it is a community."
