Goodbye Second Life. My wife and I have become so involved in consumer based advocacy we can no longer make a commitment to Second Life. I have accepted a program director position with a non-profit mental health consumer agency. Having suffered with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bi-Polar and Sever Anxiety for the last two decades I have decided to devote my life to helping others who suffer from the stigma, abuse and pain of being mentally ill. I was hospitalized over 10 times in New York City during the nineties for psychiatric reasons. Since 1997 I have been in recovery. As most of you know I am happily married and love being a father to my children. I am in a significant stage of recovery and feel an absolute obligation to give back to the community. It is an exciting time in the field of mental health. I will be piloting a peer based mental health network that will reach more than 3500 people who live with mental illness. Clinicians are beginning to take ownership of the fact they have failed us for decades. It is time for people with disabilities of all kinds to advocate for themselves and advocate for one another. With education and tolerance we can significantly change the way people relate and treat persons with mental disabilities. My wife (Paris) will be spending her time dedicated to immigration rights. She will be advocating for undocumented workers, providing translation services and strengthening the community resources. Her mother and father were both first generation immigrants so this issue is dear to her heart. Additionally Paris will be spending a good deal of her time involved with our children’s school. We have thoroughly enjoyed Second Life and cherish the friendships we have made. However, it is time for us to move on. We both have lifetime accounts, so it is not inconceivable that we may log on from time to time. But we cannot make any serious commitments to SL now or in the future. We will leave the Cartel in tact. We will not be ejecting anybody or accepting new members. It is time that the Cartel de Juarez be put in the Second Life history books. Thank you both.... for everything you have given to Second Life, and everything you have given to those who had the chance to know you. You are wonderful people and I know you will both succeed in your choices to help others. The Cartel was one of the first groups I got involved with when I first started Second Life. Darko and Paris have always been a couple of true-blue friends, and my experiences with them and the Cartel will never be forgotten. I'll miss you two. Good luck, fuckers.

You really shook the pillars and foundations of SL society with the Cartel, it's been great fun, but we all need time to take care of the things important to us, hope to catch you and Paris on one of your return visits. I didn't know either of you inworld, but on the forums I have come to recognise your contributions, paradoxically, as the voice of sanity. I can't tell you how much I will miss you - sometimes people leave and in their leaving change the face of second life for the worse and Darko, you are one of those people.
I do hope that your new endeavors will be successful - I am sure they will be - and that some time in the future you will be able to find yourselves in a position where you can pop back in and visit us.

I couldn't wish you more luck and success in your new endeavor. Dedicating your life to helping others is a noble and worthy cause. Sometimes the reason we go through our struggles in this life is so we can use our experiences to reach out and help others who are struggling with the same thing. I tip my hat top you old friend that you have the guts and courage to follow your heart and spend your life helping those in need.
We certainly have had our battles but I will say Darko, that you were always a worthy opponent. We never held a grudge even though our discussions became heated at times and I have a great deal of respect for that. Farewell to you and Paris. May God grant you wisdom, clarity and a warm heart when you need it most.

awww Papi and Paris!! I am going to miss you both so very much. You always made me feel like family and helped me through some rough times. I also had some of my best times when you were around. You are both wonderful people and this world will not be the same without you here. That said, I think it amazing what you are going to be doing with your time and I wish you the best of luck and success. I'm so proud of both of you and honored to call you my friends.
