Actually it was the French.

I'm in central Mississippi, been without power two days now, two trees came down in the aparment courtyard, big ones that could have crushed the buildings but they managed to both miss.

It was scary while the wind was blowing but altogether the event itself was not as frightening as I was expecting a few hours beforehand - not right where I was. The aftermath is worse than I expected. The local school systems are closed till after Labor Day, an almost unprecedented closing. Power is still out in most places. There are multiple hour long waits to buy gas, thank goodness I live on the same block I work at and buy groceries at and walk to both.

One of my older daughter's friend's family had moved down to the coast a while back, they are back in this area now and don't expect to have anything at all to move back to. The owner of a sign shop down on the coast, part of the same franchise, was up here, I would assume his store is gone completely.

Best wishes to those whose contact with the hurricane was more intense than mine.

This is definately a sad sad ordeal. The city of New Orleans is lost and the entire nation pays. Our company is affected by the disaster as well. It will take months for them to recover.

May peace be with you all.

At least no one blamed it on Canada.

On a serious note, my heart and thoughts (and donations are with you all on the Gulf coast). I happen to still be without power at home, though I do have a small generator which has been a life saver as I'm now coming up on 7 days.

This is why I am still without power, this was taken by the paper and is only a block from where I live (and it only hit us at a Cat 1 storm) :(

I was teasing with you Leck, I probably used the wrong emoticon, I've never been exceptional at facial expression. :o

I kind of figured you were. I've been so fucking upset about this though I am a little tense on the subject. It is such a travesty. :(

I was appalled when watching the news last night that probably one of the few store fronts that wasn't blown out by the storm fell victim to looters kicking it in. Appalled that buses or transports aren't showing up to remove the sick and elderly from hospitals and rest homes.

It is very very sad to say the least. I hope everyone here and their families are safe and on higher ground.

i know of some residents who have to stay in florida for a week now and if and when they do get back home to LA they will be without power for a month. and it makes me think when i think i have it bad in first life.
let us have these people who were in the path of Katrina in our thoughts and prayers i so agree with those on this form to do that.
the last i heard the residents i know were in florida waiting to hear about if their home area will be opened up. in fact there was rumor that Lousiana government was going to shut down the state. now that makes absolutely no sense.
sure makes the hurricane more of a personal thing when you know someone who has been through it.
I wish a safe trip home for my friends as well as all others who have fled the storm. our prayers are with all of you.

I don't know what to say. God, be with those people at this chaotic moment, this is when we need you the most. Bush, I hate you.
