I am not known for pandastanding. I must, however, start the pandastrong Fairplay thread in the general forum. I do this for these reasons:
1. He is gone and that sucks. 2. He was one hell of a writer. 3. He added much 'wackiness' that, try though you might Edo, one person can't do alone. 4. Taco, I adore you. 5. We are one less. 6. Jeska, let this one float for just a while? 7. Cory Edo and Pol Tabla, I am still your groupie. So, pandawrong, retort! Bastard, retort! I dare you.  _____________________

I respect Pandastrong as a man of principle who is able to back his belief system with his actions. This thread should remain as the principles which led to his departure are pertinant and appropriate for discussion here.

When I first met panda, which was almost to the day last year, we were standing in the snow outside of a makeshift building filled with hundreds of beach balls. (If I'm not mistaken, he already had his trademark ciggy.) This was some kind of academic thing and there was infact a thread which he started... figuratively waving the flag. This got me sufficiently interested to check out what was going on, and in his own words, he says it like only he can.
This, AFAIK, would be one of the earlier references of Residents being in a "petri dish" of SL, some sort of grand experiment. Ultimately, communication was established, action was taken, and things got smoother after that, but it was very important for him to draw attention... it was, because I can't find any better words, "socially aware". Panda also had a trademark bag, which was made by Zero Grace. Panda was gracious enough to let me know who the creator is after I complimented on how snazzy it looked on him! He sure has good taste in fashion. It was sometime later that panda was going to photo-shoot a series of cards. I do not know whatever became of them but I felt very happy at the time that he wanted to take shots of me. That was actually one of the first times I had such an experience in SL. PANDA*POP had delicious textures. Not at first realizing it was his, for whatever reason, I stumbled across it and hurried to IM him. It was also sometime later that we got together on Spittoonie to get into some chairfight brawls, before money grew tight and the fights grew spaced more apart, and eventually, chairfights went goodbye. And sadly, in time, so did Spittoonie. But panda was here... at least for awhile longer. And I hope not to say that in past tense, because that's something I'll always remember. And since panda stands up for what he believes in to post here, I'll do the same. _____________________

I hated pandastrong Fairplay, as I hate anyone who is funnier than me. We ran into each other in-world sometimes, and invariably the encounters would end with me sobbing like a little girl in the corner of some newbie cabin (possibly Euterpe's?), wracked with jealousy.
Anyway, what it comes down to is that Second Life is not as important as some other things. What those things are is up to the individual; pandastrong has chosen what is more important to him, and even if you don't agree, you gotta respect him for it. |
