Ice, splints and slings, keep the injured areas above your heart, according to wikipedia.

Might want to try some voice to text software.

--- sddenda ---

Watever you do to take care of yourself, try to do it for two weeks longer than it seems like you need to.

I had a grade 3 rupture, I imagine, of the ligaments in my foot long ago, which would be a severe sprain. It was incredibly painful, had to walk on crutches for weeks and made my teachers come to my desk to help me, which I think caused them severe emotional trauma, having to go to a student instead of the student having to come to them.

If you take painkillers, don't take too many. Some of them, if you take too many, don't transport you into some totally painfree bliss state, they make you feel sick.

Have you been to a doctor?

yes, i went to the hospital yesterday. it was a depressing reminder of how backwards this country is. free healthcare=crap healthcare
the doctor said, nothing broken, nothing dislocated, NEXT! so now im stuck on this armchair trying to keep my arms very still since apparently it would be too much to ask of my govenmnt to provide some bandages and a bit of plaster for someone who is in too muh pain to eat, drink or wipe his ownn ass. the only painkiller i have is paracetamol, i took 2 yesterday, it helped a bit.

Heh, poor bike is 12 years old, the seat is crumbling, the gear/brake cables are rusty, and it's all scratched from my multiple accidents. None as bad as this one thank god.
So after the stupid doctor refused to bandage me, mom arrived and brought me some elastic thingies, lotion and ibuprofen. i feel a little better, but i'm still dreading the prospect of having to wipe my ass or brush my teeth :(

Take it all very very slowly. You can do almost anything with sprains as long as you don't move too quickly or apply too much weight. At the risk of sounding indelicate (too late), use a cloth; it lends much easier control than paper. No no e55z0r not on your teeth silly.

thank you khamon! since i am a euro-peon i was thinking of using the bidet, with its nicely positioned jet of water that women use every day ;)
i have trouble eating so i havent run into that issue yet. but i truly appreciate the advice!
re: moving
i cannot straighten or bend my arms too much without it hurting a lot. i'm getting better though. i've managed to lift tall glasses up to my mouth. the length helps, along with some tooth work :)

eggy, for the late rising US crowd, could you please tell us again how you feel about your country's National Health Care?

Take care of yourself! I hope that you have a full recovery.

And, I agree that a warm wet rag instead of flimsy tissue will make you feel like a king! (not for your teeth, hehe)

According to the posts in this thread, your challenges will be:

keeping teeth clean
keeping up to date and in contact in SL
keeping regular
keeping ass clean

Best of Luck!

Wow, and I thought one could only get hairy palms and blindness from "bike accidents". ;)

Get well.

it's a fucking corpse factory champie. they killed my grandfather 5 years ago and kill some 4000 people every year in *confirmed* malpractice deaths. our hospitals are dirty and run-down. it's like i just walked into cuba or soviet russia or some third world country.

:( I hope you feel better soon ...

I haven't broken/sprained anything so I don't really have much advice for you ... except maybe to rent some good movies.

Yikes! That is horrible, Eggy. Well, I hope you take it easy enough to heal. Sounds like, at long last, you will need to get a new bike which may keep you safer in the long term. Hope you heal well and quickly.
