'Alpha Sorting Bug' is apparently too generic of a term.

There is a 'bug' whereby a certain type of fully alpha prim can hide other objects, including avatars. This 'bug' is used to much (prim shoes, fancy non-human avs etc) that it is now a relied upon 'feature' - the 'invisi-prim hack'. There was a time around 1.9 when we 'broke' this bug when making some other changes. This broke some content, and upset some people. I believe the timeline is about right for that town hall that Philip is referring to fixing the invisi-prim hack to work again, or something related.

This thread from a couple weeks earlier discusses this issue.
