Griefing controls are worthless if there is a revolving door on re-entry!

I am completely dumbfounded by the official Linden response to Proposal 1503. Over three thousand votes DEMANDED that we return to the previous method of account creation, where some sort of verification of identity was taking place. The proposal was NOT for 'Give us more anti-griefing controls'. The proposal was for eliminating the completely unrestricted and unverifed creation of new accounts.

GET A CLUE!

The best anti-griefing and ban controls possible do NO GOOD AT ALL if the griefer or child can be back in the door 5 minutes later with a shiny new account that is not tracable to the previous one!

Is Linden Labs so bent on mindlessly increasing the number of new accounts that they really don't care about anything else? That is the impression you're giving us.

PLEASE explain why you think throwing the doors wide open to every minor and troublemaker on the Internet is a good idea!

Please explain how not even bothering to see if they entered a valid e-mail address benefits your customers!

The current sign-up system may as well just be "Select a name and a password, and here's a direct link to the client download page".

Torley, We have met before, and I think that you, personally, are a dear, sweet person. I realize that this is entirely beyond anything that you, personally, have any control over, and I don't blame YOU for this mess.

HOWEVER, you did not answer ANY of the points in my post! Yes, I saw Robin's promises of anti-griefer tools, some time in the future. NONE OF THEM WILL KEEP A DETERMINED GRIEFER AWAY! Ban them, mute them, delete their account "with extreme prejudice", and they will be back minutes later with a new ID, doing it all over again!

The revolving door of infinite accounts HAS to be shut and locked, or you will NEVER get out of this mess!

The ability of a child or a griefer to come back immediately after you banned them, with new identity information, makes any attempt at enforcing the Linden's rules of behavior a sad joke.

PEOPLE ARE LEAVING SL BECAUSE OF THIS. One of my own housemate's in SL came to me today, gave me virtually all his cash and any traneferrable items he thought I might be able to use or sell, and he logged off, not expecting to return. You can see his "goodbye" post here. My friend no longer feels at all safe here. He doesn't believe SL is at all serious about keeping minors out, and he is leaving before he gets caught in the legal crossfire.

I have half a mind to join him, too.

I'm going to look to aggregate more and keep on the pulse. I do NOT like the idea of griefer dumbasses swarming in and making SL a hellhole either. Also know a lot of Lindens who spend inworld time on the "front lines" like Liaisons feel this way, and we've all been communicating about it.

I know whenever we announce changes, that's never enough.

We've got to follow through.

And we'll keep doing that.
