Do you still continue to feel that libsecondlife is an incredibly important part of Second Life’s development and community? The recent grid attackers pointed out security holes too, but they were not viewed as an important part of SL.
Just a thought: do we really need an open source client? Do we need every scripter kid out there to have a close look at the client source code and transform it into other nifty tools? As long as single individuals find an exploit option, they will fear to get caught and be careful who they trade their hacks to. It's a danger, but a rather small one. LibSL has nothing to fear at all, it seems. GodMode hacks, CopyBots... the open source idea is to spread it around, for everyone to use, openly advertised on the web as well as inworld. Can we trust someone with such a mindset to inform you first and give you time to react, before they sell their hacks with a nice profit (http://www.libsecondlife.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15)?
