The $L value has dropped sharply since limit buys were instated. Seems this should go before newbie stipends should.

Now people entering SL with a basic membership to try it out and see if they want to invest in a premium, have to buy $L's just to learn how to upload textures. These poor folks won't have a cent with which to learn skills, won't be able to take snap-shots, won't be able to rate anyone, won't be able to post classified ad's. LL has taken the "basic" membership, and it seems it is going to cost them more in $US than a premium would just to learn a few things and get some snap-shots of friends.

How does limit buys do this....the traders are posting rediculously low values to buy and posting high sell's but the overall effect is a steady drop because now they'll be undercutting eachother to buy at the lowest rate possible.

LL...go back to the old system!!! It was dropping but not this fast. At least then stipends could almost fairly be blamed for the drop, now I belive the drop is caused mostly by traders gaming the new system.

If you want to get rid of something, why not drop the stipends once someone's $L account reaches a certain amount (not sure what that amount should be)

Changes were made to stipends as announced by Robin Linden yesterday:

We're going to continue watching for changes too--it's important to keep an eye on the longterm ramifications.

Ratings are a sore point to me; I consider them stale and hardly socially relevant. I'd spend the L$ on uploading textures instead, given the choice.

About textures too, there are plenty of freebie packs to play with that are already available inworld.

Snapshots can still be taken and saved to disk for free. This has not changed. They can be shared on a social site like Snapzilla or uploaded to Flickr. It's only L$10 if they're uploaded to inventory.

And for anyone who wanted more clarification and didn't see this earlier, Jeff Linden posted more details about how Market and Limit Buys work here:
