A friend tipped me off that temp-on-rez items now count against parcel limits. I have tested this myself and it seems to be true, but I don't know if it is a bug or a feature.
I'm assuming...bug or by-product of the grey goo fence.
Having talked to Harry Linden, I understand that the way temp-on-rez behaves was changed some time ago, so that an item which is checked temp-on-rez when created, doesn't become temp on rez until re-rezzed. I didn't know that.
What seems a lot stranger is that if you rez a temp-on-rez item from inventory, and then shift drag it, the copies are static, not temp on rez.
This means that temp-on-rez is very very confusing, and behaves in a lot of different ways which are not intuitive. Please point me towards the documentation of the changes, because I am having trouble working it out.
My friend who ran the experiements says that temp-on-rez items which don't appear on parcel or sim count, were triggering a hard prim limit for the sim, but I will have to check that out again. Cali

I'm not aware of these changes, Cali. Temp-on-Rez (what some call ToR) didn't count against parcel limit last I checked. Documentation is here: http://secondlife.com/badgeo/wakka.php?wakka=TemporaryOnRezHowever, enough ToR objects will hit the regional ceiling of what is usually 15,000 prims as I think you're saying. A la... /139/09/107559/1.html#post1045941I was confused before about what "temp-on-rez" meant too, and at one point, mistakenly thought it was a bug when I rezzed a cube, checked the box, and expected it to disappear. (I didn't know I had to re-rez it either!) One plausible reason why this doesn't happen is: to avoid accidental content loss. And of course, common sense dictates the prim has not actually been rezzed since you checked that box. Hence the name. What Harry Linden said. If ever in doubt and want to check manually, simply take the desired ToR object into inventory and drag it back out into the world. And wait.
