Like any legitimate online destination where mature content can be found, we ask those seeking admission to declare their age. As with the internet as a whole, it can often be more difficult to determine who someone is not, than to determine who they actually are. As such we request that anyone who admits underage status on the main grid be reported to a Linden.

Since we're not "really" even pretending to care about honest age restrictions, is anyone worried that this new lax attitude on age verification will just encourage /adults/ to go to the teen grid and not supply a credit card there either? Not referring to sickos, merely since we're ENCOURAGING intermingling, some adults will now start wondering "what is the point" and create TG accounts to start selling copies of their items there. We're already cohabitating with the teens more than ever so why /not/ take advantage of the new potential marketshare?

Truely not meaning this to be an angry post. Just trying to show yet another side of the issue in addition to all the other valid points that have been made regarding age verification and of honestly 'protecting' the adult population here from wandering teens.

I would love and appreciate a comment on this aspect if any of the staff has one to give.

EDIT:

Thanks for the reply Torley ! Much appreciated though I was a bit unsure if LL was making an effort to distinguish from a household where both a parent and teen DOES play from the same house, to an adult who just pretends to have a teen. To me it seems LL's hands are mostly tied in having no choice but to just believe that a teen exists with a policy as open and unverfied as we currently have. Thanks again.

Hi Seronis, you're of course familiar with our policy that an account found to be "playing both grids" gets permabanned from *all* of Second Life. This has happened before, and any ill-gotten gains were quickly shunted because of it.

Behind the scenes, we're also developing additional security measures so that you can't just keep coming in, creating alts by attrition and repeatedly causing trouble.

To touch on some of what you said, Blue earlier made a longer post about what action gets taken:
