When i first joined, about a month ago, i look at these forums and severly missed a newbie forum. I looked at this forum and thought, oh that's not a community forum, i looked at the education forums, but thought oh that's just for the people running those programs. The only place where game talk really can go is the general forum.

There are undoubtedly other subcategories missing, but i'd think that a new players forum is the most urgent one needed with the rapid growth of SL. Questions just get drowned out in the general forum, there is a host of people looking for 'any' job in the employment forum because they don't know how to make money.

I hope it's possible to squeeze in a forum for newbies. I know i would stop by there regularily and i am sure others would too.

Cheery day to you, Linada. :)

We've been looking at several ways to approach this. While on the broader scale, our efforts have been moving towards increasing the amount of help inworld--within Second Life itself, it's also important to provide assistance beyond that. Especially with frequently-asked questions that've already been answered, we do have F1 HELP (which is accessed by pressing F1 inworld!) and a Knowledge Base which is easy to search;

http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/

or even something like:

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS: Fast Cures for Common Problems
http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=078

I am always watching for other questions that come up which haven't been answered yet. Comforting to know when a solution already exists.

The forums are messy and aren't easy to find things on. However, when I find highlights, I like to showcase them. Specifically touching on your concern, Angel Fluffy's making L$ guide, which I've stickied right in the Employment Ops & Help forum!

Personally, I've found a disconnect with presenting certain kinds of assistance on here, so I don't think we'll be doing a newbie forum, foreseeably. I think it'll be key to have more varieties of asynchronous communication inworld for better hands-on helping.

If you have specific questions you think are of wide interest that you haven't found answers to yet, please send them to me: torley@lindenlab.com

Thanx for for your suggestion!
