I pose this question in the hope that someone from LL will respond
I appreciate there are numerous threads on the forum, many of which are never responded to.
However the issue of Skinhead Mission has posed numerous threads and debate from your paying and non-paying customers. You may well feel that the vocal minority on the forums do not particularly matter compared to your non-vocal customer base, however good business practice indicates that the vocal minority are those who care most and can influence your potential customers most vociferously, so should perhaps be considered as your most valuable commercial asset.
Whilst I appreciate that you will not divulge personal information, nor necessarily much information, you do appear to have made a decision which is divisive in your customer base and as such, if not for the customer base, then for your potential investors, have a responsibility to respond.
It appears that a member was banned for using the name Skinhead.
It is further asserted that the reason for the banning of the name Skinhead was because of the racist connotations of this name.
Can you please confirm whether these two statements are correct, or if either is correct.
If this was not the reason, then you can easily stop the circle of disdain and support for this decision by statng this as fact, without divulging any more information.
If, however the customer was banned for using this name can you please explain why and further provided a list of names you deem unacceptable and why it was allowed on registration.
The speculation, backed up by those who claim to know this individual, is that the ban was placed without any discussion. Those who claim to have met the individual in SL have not attested to any unsavoury activity, infact the contrary.
Whilst there are significant numbers of your customer base who support this decision, there are a far greater number, who find this abhorent. These are particularly, but by no means exclusively those of your customers from outside the USA, where we more generally call racists, racists, not a pseudonym, which it appears in some areas of the USA, Skinhead has become the 'politically correct' term.
To declare my own position.
I do not know, nor have ever been in contact with Skinhead Mission, so have no personal interest.
I do however have a business interest, as I do have a proposal with LL, which if it comes to fruition will involve a significant investment by my RL company in developing a platform in SL.
As I stated in my proposal I am concerned by the very general nature of the TOS and this, to my mind and to my fellow Directors, is a vivid example of the loose TOS which lead to arbitary decisions, providing LL with total control and no requirement to respond and investors and developers on the platform with no recourse.
