Living in europe, im relatively de-sync with most of my friends. On the website, I can see they are online when I'm at work. It would be appreciated by people in my case to have a light IM client able to communicate to and from SL without entering SL.
Could this be available in the future ?

The possibility certainly exists, and we haven't said no--more interoperability has been a continuing theme with us. And like you said, it'd definitely be appreciated!
