I know this was posted in the Feature voting but it hase received no attention from LL. So i was wondering what theire views on a web im client is. One that would allow you to only chat with poeple on your friends list. I know myslef would love to have one cause it happend more than once that i was at school and wanted to check up on sommething in SSL but could not. Anyways like i said just wondering what LL thinks about this.

Thanx for you time
Haramino

If you'd like to IM, PM, or email me with the vote proposals, I'll check out how popular it's doing. With the Feature Voting Tool, features which accumulate over 500 votes are ones we definitely want to comment on.

I agree this would be a big win for interoperability, and just plain easily being able to chat with friends in SL if you can't login yourself--exactly what you said! A lot of Lindens have actually expressed interest in this, and it seems to me that more "gateways" in and out of SL are inevitable, if eventual. But the basic functionality of a lightweight Instant Messenger, able to communicate with SL, is compelling.

Please also have a look of previous SL Answers of interest like this.

In the meantime, you may want to look at Resident-created innovations like what Max Case made (look on the right, send him a message) and Ordinal Malaprop's "Communications and so forth" post.

Cheerio, Haramino! :)
