This thread by MadamG Zagato got me thinking about a related question:

What percentage of abuse reports result in actual action by the LL abuse report team?

Put another way, what percentage of abuse reports result in no action due to problems like a lack of information in the report, a lack of proof that anything wrong was done, a misunderstanding of the rules on the part of the reporter, etc?

As things stand, we really don't have much indication when something like this has happened. The form letter we get forwards us to the Police Blotter, but it seems pretty clear from things that some Lindens have said that by no means are all Abuse Team actions actually recorded on the Police Blotter.

If statistics like this aren't readily available, would the Abuse Team consider starting to collect them from now on, and posting them, say, monthly?

The reason I ask is that there seems to be a widely held distrust of the abuse reporting process, and a common belief that nothing really happens with a majority of abuse reports. Reporting stats like this could go a long way to helping alleviate such fears. If the stats show that the fears are well-founded, it might help residents to be able to pinpoint what they don't like about the current system so that we're better equipped to ask for change.

I'm forwarding this to the Abuse Team!
