How are the land barons getting the newbie land?
Are they creating new AV's and paying out 9.95 a month for each 512k plot?
Then are they collecting 500 in stippend a week for each of these alt accounts?
Then are they using these Alt account to accumulate dwell?
The answer to all these questions is Yes and its a form of gaming the current system.

I am not a businessman, I do not sell anything in RL or SL. But if I could find an honest and ethical way to cover my $75 tier, I would love to hear of it. Even in my best of days, when all my friends visit me the same day, I have only received L$50 in dwell. That is hardly 20 cents USD, or $6 a month if I could sustain those levels on a daily basis.

Although as you stated, the Land Baron method explained above is a highly unethical way to make money, I wanted to use it as a learning experience in business financing, so I spent the last half hour doing the math on your formula, and I am coming out with huge losses no matter how I look at. Can you please show me how you came up with a profit using that system? I am honestly curious!

Thanks.

Newbies who want a nice little 512m2 M piece of land to call their own should look for a First Land lot for $512. They should not be buying the land from other players at any price. First Land lots being resold usually go to neighbors for expansion - at market prices

It is just as you say! I started in August, pretty close to the peak of land prices and the Linden. Being a newbie, I did a little inquiring and found out about the first land program.

Within a week I had my own little patch of land. I soon discovered it is hard to build anything on 512 sqm, so I offered it to my neighbor. She promptly offered 6K for it. It was a fair price and sold it to her.

I never had any "Land Baron" approach me to take the land from under me, and even if somebody had, I would have taken 10 minutes to research or ask around what was the going price of land.

hey tito,
this link will lead you to my musings: gaming alt accounts.

although i think mathematically it would work if someone was willing to put in the crazy amount of time to set it up, i'm sure the Lindens would bust it up before any profits were realized. the gaming of alt accounts would have a serious negative impact on the value of the L$. i think it's ridiculous some people think LL would allow it to happen.

An honest way to cover it.. sure.. think of the things you'd really like to do or see in Second Life, but currently can't do.

Find a work around - build, make, script, whatever it takes to make that one thing happen.

Sell your work for a reasonable price - there are plenty of reasonable priced 'rent - o - places' around Second Life at the moment -- good coverage shouldn't cost you more than a couple of hundred Lindens.

Chances are - if theres something you want to do, but can't, there are plenty of others out there that want to as well.

Siggy.

I am sorry Cat, I misunderstood you evidently and, so, I apologize for my strong response.

I truthfully do not want to be an enemy to anyone here - I am going to refrain from responding to these types of topics. I think that people know what I am trying to represent. And so will not keep going over and over it.

*sigh*

I agree with what Lisse said. I did have someone offer me a derisory figure for my land for the landless when I first started but luckily my neighbours warned me of this. Whether this still happens, I just don't know.

My advice is the same as Lisse's - take your time, see what plots in various sims are being sold for, obviously they will be more expensive in mature land near water than inland on a PG sim, and I wish you the best in finding the perfect land for you. :)
