Actually, they need to outsouce prim creation to India, and then they could save even more money. I'm sure they could work out a tax write-off too. I'm not sure about the level of service though. I mean translation issues could be a problem. You might end up asking for a sphere and getting a cube, how annoying would that be? Yes, I have heard horror stories of companies that outsourced customer service functions to offshore. I think my idea for allocating prims and re-selling them to private in-world individuals would fare much better. Though the margins may be lower for LL, they would still save money and preserve high quality customer service. Cubey, I like the way you are thinking. I never thought that there could be another basic prim texture (other than wood) but thats a great line of thought. Gentlemen and Ladies, this is what I'm talking about - we're all discussing ideas to improve our gaming experience. Aside from a jerky start, this thread is starting to show real promise. I look forward to our continuing discussion. Phillip, if you'd like to throw your thoughts into the ring, that would be swell, as well.

A free market in prims might also alow competiting companies to introduce new prim shapes. I can see it now, 'The Homer', 'The Long Bendy One', 'The Nipple'.. imagine the possibilities!

Chicago, will the changes you ask for prevent the kind of land abuse going on in Kojin?
As you can see from this photo, someone has put up a spinning, particle spewing tower that is clearly infringing on the land next door (as indicated by the plywood wall). The tower owner has feigned ignorance that his items are entering the other parcel.
What rights would the oppressed landowner have under the new regime?

The art of sarcasm is lost on these infidels.
Hmmm, maybe the lack of sarcasm and general good humor is because of the ever increasing economic stranglehold of the Lindens! In that case, fight the power Chicago! I'll back you as long as no one knows it's me.

Now that it is in the open, I encourage you to promote the free market.

I mean translation issues could be a problem. You might end up asking for a sphere and getting a cube, how annoying would that be? Well, really you'd need to diversify your efforts for proper redundancy. Tier 1 sphere support and rezzing would be offshore in Mumbai (where we have a new 6,000 seat facility ready and waiting), Tier 2 would be nearshore, probably just outside of Dublin, and Tier 3 for those really tricky sphere rez problems would be in Denver. Cube prims we can test out in China -- they're just getting their outsourcing feet wet so don't want to strain the engine or push the language barriers too far. Perhaps a base in the Phillipines too. And torii, because they need a little engineering know-how -- definitely Russia or Latvia. We're currently averaging gross margins on prims (across types) of about 76%, give or take. But this outsourcing venture could boost EBITDA to... well, about 45%! You can take that to the bank. This more-than-incremental boost to profitability can subsidize an aggressive pricing policy and take our market share in prim production up to, well over 110% I would guess. We're at 100% now, but you can always improve! At that point, with the competition on its knees and begging for government intervention, we take an 11% equity stake in the #2 player, start a shareholder movement to seed the board with our picks, and then in 6 months launch a tender offer at a 30% discount. Anti-trust be damned -- those DOJ boys are too busy with the telco deals anyway. Yes, I can see it all now. Michi, did you get my memo on shaking up our internal cost of capital figures? Let's roll up them sleeves!

I'm all for privatized roads. Would that mean they would finally work right? Socialist roads let the cars sink into them.

What's this I hear about trying to conserve our prim race horses?
What's so special about prim race horses? What about the prim ponies and prim stallions? Who's going to feed and care for all the wild prim mustangs?

Nobody much talks about socialism vs. capitalism these days. Does the battle still rage on?
