Exclamation LindeX closed due to technical difficulties
The LindeX (Linden currency exchange) is experiencing technical difficulties. We are working to resolve the issue now.

I will post an update when it is once again functional.

Time to SELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You never know if LL will come back with a new currency and decommision the L$.

Like I said, time to replace it with the RBN$ Reserve Bank Note.

If LindenX is closed for technical reasons, it should only be a short term issue, right? Then why is LL point folks to use other currency exchanges which take time to register into?

Question is, will this be fixed in a few short hours? Days, Weeks, Never?

Lindex is Closed Right Now
Please try again later, or use another Second Life Currency Exchange.

Sounds to me like a beta test on implementing a new currency and getting rid of the Linden Dollar.

Good luck selling that worthless currency when the LindenX is closed... Better hope the next message to get when you click on (Sell) isn't:

We are sorry to announce the Linden Dollar has been Decommission. You will now have to use Reserve Bank Notes RBN$ which can be purchased by clicking this link".

Muahahahahahahaha....

Don't worry. LL can just sell some more L$ to bring the rate back up.

Oh. Wait a sec....

That doesn't sound productive. However now we have the option of selling (aka introducing into the SL economy) *less* L$ and doing so *at* the market value, instead of at a heavily subsidized Premium stipend rate.

Cheers,

LindeX closed!?

Not that I identify strongly with $L, or that I'd cease to exist without it in my current form, but...

*falls into a troubled dream*...

You acknowledge that Desmond presently is a component of in-world fictional population ("Desmond" or "Desmond Shang" or "De$";), which constitutes a limited license right to use a feature of our product when, as, and if allowed by Linden Lab...

Meh.

The LindeX will open back up. :)

They can not sell more $L, where with the stipend they didn't have much of a choice. Anyone that wanted to join would instantly put cheap money into the economy.

Linden Labs deserves money for bringing customers to the content creators. With the stipend going down, they will be getting less money from premium accounts. They deserve to make some of this money back through the Lindex. If Linden Labs wasn't running Second Life in the first place, then every content creator would be without any way of making money in a fairly unregulated online environment like Second Life. The platform to make money is a service in itself.

Hiya, Dark. That's a really interesting view and one that deserves pondering over. :)

So do 3D modellers pay the games companies a fee for letting them create 3D models for their game? That'd be crazy.

Some people may even argue that LL should pay the content creators. Me personally, I think we break even. LL give the content creators a platform and in return, the content creators give them the content that helps to entertain their residents. This then keeps them coming back and continuing to pay their subscription fee.

Would people still come here if SL was just baron land?. Isn't the largest part of the population just here for fun, rather than building?

Funny huh? Did they shut down the LindeX because of a tech problem or because the Linden was headed the way of the Dodo Bird? Timmmmmmmmmmber...

Perhaps the provider doesn't want to be involved in funding casinos.

The people who keep talking about setting up their own currency systems make me laugh. I wouldn't be any more inclinded to accept "RBN$" from you as payment in SL than I would be to take a Confederate $3 bill from you in RL.

Good point. And an update tomorrow? I think LL may be introducing a few to many changes in such a short period of time. In any economy you want things to be constant and stable, not changing every two months. And now the new anti-casino laws, etc. People are getting worried. Timmmmmber....

In my view, the ones here to have fun are the customers of the content creators. I believe the content creators are the customers of Linden Labs whether they are creating content for personal entertainment or to make money. There are systems where people pay for huge chunks of their game being made before hand. A good example is the Torque Game Engine where people pay the graphics engine company to contribute a large chunk of a game they want to make and sell. Another example is Havoc itself which Linden Labs has bought. Every content creator in Second Life is allowed to forget about 99% of the details it would take for them to run their own massive virtual world full of citizens. Would a person making clothes in photoshop be able to make any money without an environment chalked full of people trying to wear cool virtual clothes. I don't see any problem with a percentage being taken by Linden Labs. Havoc already likely gets their percentage, so why shouldn't Linden Labs. It seems to me that they are simply shifting the tax to an easier to mange format rather than the already existing tax of the stipend.

Actually this isn't the first time this has happened. The last time was just before 6/26/2006
and the Lindex was down for 11 hours in that instance. However when the LindeX did open on 6/26/2006 it traded 12,734,549 L$ in a little over 13 hours. The week before and week after that date saw 12,969,910 L$ and 11,716,511 L$ traded respectively in 24 hours so unless this lasts over 12 hours it may not effect the LindeX at all.

I didn't see before the LindeX went down, but I saw a post on here saying the rate at that time was 312L$/1usd? Is that correct? Anyone?

L$305/1 was the last highest limit sell offer. You can see for yourself here https://secondlife.com/currency/market.php.

I flushed your RBN$ earlier after using them.
