I think the only way to look at land in SL is think of it as a service. When you buy land, the price of land is the initial setup cost of a new server

For islands, yes, but mainland sims are auctioned.

Yumi,

I suspect, although I am not too much of a tech person, that the cost of setup is very small. So Land cost is most likely extra free revenue for LL. And when abandoned land gets resold, it is even more profitable for LL.

The biggest thing that sucks about Land is the reoccuring
tier fee which fills up LLs coffers.

You just can't buy some massive plot with Linden Dollars
and call it a day. You have to open up your US Wallet and
pay up hundreds per month to keep it.

But don't expect much change. LL it going to milk this cow
until the end.

If you look at land as server space, it makes sense that LL is charging you what it's charging you. In fact if LL only does that (providing infrastucture) and leave SL to run by itself, everything would be better. You would have a more stable L$ and people would have more confidence in the concept.

Hope about if LL accepts tier payments in Linden Dollars?
Then I bet you they would be more active if making sure
the Linden Dollar remains strong, since they have to sell
L$ themselves to recoup the US$. And it would force
people to grow the economy to afford their land plots
or buy L$ to pay the tier. Creating L$ demand.

But since they accept US$ for tier payments, they can
let the economy slide, because they still get paid. They don't
have any day-to-day incentive to strengthen the L$.
