I am quite upset actually. I have owned large portions of land for the last 8 months and recent was able to get down to the 195.00 level. On 1 day I had to add to that to sell off a spot that was next to me. Now we are tlaking like 1 day out of a month that I was bumped to the 295.00 level, then went rt back to the 195 level.
It seems to me that a pro-rated situation would be more then fair instead of ripping me for a full $100 extra for such a thing. I did not use that level but for 24 hours. It is simply not fair.
Linden has gotten plenty of money from me and it would show much better customer service to work with situations like that instead of ripping ppl off in such a fashion as stating crap like this:
"...Therefore, even holding land for a minute or a day, will result in a higher land fee charge for that month.
Regards,
Firefly Linden"
It does not make sense to me.

That really sucks, Trin.
And what it allows them to do is charge tier twice (or more) for the same land. There really should be a better prorated way to handle tier (and one that is based on a price per meter rather than tiers).

Let's look at it this way. If a 200-lb. person gains 20 lbs. he/she has to buy new clothing to fit, even if he/she loses enough weight a day later to fit into the old clothes.
Otherwise there will be people taking advantage of the "prorating" and making sure they unload land quickly when their 14 days are up.

And you had to know when you bought the additional land that it was going to up your tier. After all you had to up the tier to have the transaction go through. This isnt something new in SL, its always been this way since tier was first started.

it has nothing to do with it being right or wrong... as in real life, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

There was no warning that she was moving up a tier when she acquired the extra land. She got the extra land in one sim, sold off the land in the other sim the same day and it wasn't until 3 weeks later that she found out she went over the tier limit. At least that is how she remembers it.

If its as she says then a call to support or billing should be done.

A way of quickly (ie very short term) of avoiding these types of fees is to use group land. I've had to do a entire-sim-sized transfer on the mainland in the past (albeit a year ago), and we way we did it, was deed to group, drop tier from that group, then 'sell' to the new owner from the group. Since group land can be temporarily 'tier-less', it can be a way of getting around this sort of problem, without being billed to heck. -Adam

The way it works is fair. If you never had to tier up on land you are able to buy and sell in 24 hours, that person never has to actually pay for the land they are selling. The tier pricing might be in question, there are some big jumps in quanity and price the higher up the tier scale you climb, but the actual way it works should not change.

From: Toy LaFollette it has nothing to do with it being right or wrong... as in real life, ignorance of the law is no excuse. Tier fees aren't "law". It is a business deal. And as with most business transactions, sometimes there is room for negotiation. Best to contact SL about this I guess.

Was the Linden you contacted a concierge? If not, and if you're holding enough land to qualify for this level of support (1/2 region or more), which I gather from your post that you are, you might try contacting them. They're usually willing to work with people and also seem to be able to get the ball rolling on things faster than "support@".
I had a similar problem to this which was able to be corrected. I didn't actually USE the tier at all though. I just typed an extra 0 on accident when adjusting a group's tier alocation, and corrected it about 2 seconds later. They did fix it though, so it might be worth a shot to contact them.

Now I want to tier up just so I'll have a concierge. "Can you get me tickets to the next VERTU gala?" "Can you recommend a good steakhouse nearby? Someplace really nice, with baked and shadowed textures?"

My account was not accurate in teir level prior. Even when I was well below what my tier was at. The bottom line is that the pricing structure for that is stupid. We are not talking about buying new frickkin clothes. We are talking about the fact that there should be a pro-rate structure for this type of thing instead of straining every penny from your client.
