Probably the LindeX for most people.

LindeX isn't really ready for prime time yet. They don't have any easy way to get your money out if you sell it.

Once you sell your $L, you have to contact LL directly and they charge you $5.00 for a Paypal transaction.

I won't be using LindeX until they get Paypal Mass Pay and I can get paid quickly and easily by clicking a button.

i looked at lindex for the first time today. and yes, it seems odd that they don't have an automated system. i'll be waiting for that as well. but, other than that, lindex seems pretty good.

It depends on what you are using the money for. As many people use their sales income to cover tier, it really isn't an issue at this point. Sales on LindeX leave a USD balance on your account. When your tier is due, this balance will be used to pay tier first before charging your card. If you are using your sales to cover tier, there is no reason to remove it to Paypal, as you would just be paying a fee to turn around and pay the money back to LL.

Granted, if you are using it for something else and need to be paid immediately, IGE is probably going to be your best route at this point, as they have implemented mass pay, though their buying rate is less than Lindex (3.45 vs 3.80 or so). In the end, it comes out about the same as using Lindex and outputting to Paypal, except not as quick since it is not automated. There are no additional fees involved with IGE. With LindeX, you have to take into account the 3.5% plus the $5.00 and receive fees if you have a premier Paypal account, so that 3.80 drops significantly closer to the 3.45 rate in the end. Price on the screen is all well and good, but in the end it matters what the net amount is going to be in your Paypal account, and with IGE, the initially quoted price is the amount that ends up there.

It is certainly an issue for me and anyone else who would like to cash out their $L. I would prefer to get the higher $L rate from LindeX but as long as they're going to charge a high Paypal fee, I won't use their service.

I would cream my pants if LL could discover a means of transferring my funds directly to my checking account, sans PayPal.

Hello. I was wondering if anybody can help with my calculations for selling my Lindens.
According to the Lindex, the rate is currently L263 = $1.00.
The transaction fee is 3.5%.
I also use Paypal, so their fee for that is $5.00.

So I would like to sell L10,000.
How much would I receive into my dollar account?
Here is what I figured:

L10,000/L263 = $38.02.

$38.02 X 3.5% = $1.33

$38.02 - $1.33 = $36.69 This, I believe would be the dollar balance in my SL account.

$36.69 - $5.00 = $31.69 This is the total I would get for sending the money into my Paypal Account.

1. Can anybody tell me if this is correct?
2. Can anybody tell me how to transfer this money from my SL Account into my Paypal account? I do not see the button for it.
3. Is this a good deal to get $31.69 for L10,000? Or would I be better off using another platform?

Thanks! : )

1. Yes, close enough.
2. e-mail exchange_proceeds@lindenlab.com
3. No. That is basicly 3.17 per 1000L. IGE buys at 3.45 per 1000 and that is to your paypal account. You may want to look around, I am not sure who else sells, but I think there is a link on the currancy page to other exchanges. Also, check out SLexchange, I think they buy too.

$3.17 per 1000? No, it's a lousy deal. 6 months ago I was selling L$ for $4 / 1000. Then someone dumped massive amounts of L$ on the market- apparently in a market takeover attempt. Even then, like someone pointed out, $3.45/1000 is about as low as things got for any length of time... and that's what IGE is paying (make SURE you have them pay you via PayPal and not a check, or you'll be waiting forever).

Durn, wouldn't it be nice if LL set up something and for once.. it actually worked? ;)

Hi I sold my Lindens, and I did not get my dollars right away.
In my account, it just shows my order as an open order.

What is going on?

You didn't sell them, you only listed them for sale. Someone has to buy them before you get your money.

You can cancel that order any time you want and get your lindens back and list them cheaper to sell quicker. Or you can wait for somebody to buy them.

OK Thanks! I did it at the listed price of 264.
Do you think it is likely that would sell?

So I haven't been following the technical end of this closely, but the whole idea behind this, as I recall, was for LL to create some kind of interface so that other 3d-party sites would be able to have access to *something* that would make it easier for them to put up a currency exchange of their own, is that recollection correct?

And if it is correct: Has that actually been done?

No that is wrong.
The interface has zero to do with any third party whatsoever.
The interface is specifically for players of Second Life.
It allows us to buy/sell Lindens with each other within our SL accounts.

It has worked well for me so far.
I put in the order, and it went through.
I now have the cash in my SL account minus the 3.5% commission.

I have sent SL an email asking them to transfer all of the cash into my Paypal account.
In telling them how much I wanted to withdraw, I was not sure about something.
Whether to tell them I wanted the entire $x.xx amount. Or to tell them that I wanted $x.xx-$5.

So I explained in the email that I wanted them to give me all of the cash minus the $5 Paypal fee.

I am now waiting for them to process my order, and see my money in my Paypal account.

Guess you're right:

Lawrence Linden: "By introducing a Linden Labs run currency exchange we hope to fuel the in world economy back making L$ more accessible to people who don't have enough. We predict that this should dramatically increase the amount of L$ that change hands in-world every day. We wanted to especially ensure that new Residents had easy access to L$ without having to take yet another leap of trust to sign up with a thrid party."

Way to go, impugn the trustworthiness of third-party sites!

Yes it's a good idea.
I really don't trust any internet company as it is.
Even Linden Labs isn't that trustworthy.
But I trus them to an extent that I deal with them.
I'm very glad we do not have to use a third party. It makes things so much more safe and simple.
The only issue is the pricing of Lindex. Hopefully it will drop.

I'll be using Lindex for my tier and IGE or others for cash outs. Simple. Perfect almost!

I have no feelings one way or other about LindeX... except that as I warned LL from the start-- don't do it halfway. Either do it right or not at all. I'm seeing a lot of negative comments from folks over how it's being operated. I haven't used them yet. There are two other companies, one of which just opened shop. Straightforward. Easy to use. Minimal fees. LindeX doesn't seem to offer me anything as good or better than that, so I did business with the others. GamerzFix did a great job, no hassles.
