Camping chairs are controversial, admitted, and some folks seem to take the position that the poster was served rightly if he or she was stiffed.

But misrepresentation is not controversial in my book, it is usually agreed to be bad, nasty and wrong. So is defaulting on a debt.

There are some parallels in FL. Gambling debts (where illegal) are not enforceable in court, nor are other illegal contracts (like contracts to murder someone for hire).

As far as I know, camping chairs, however much they may be a plague upon the land, are legal. Like cigarettes in FL. If legal, I don't see how a casino owner misrepresenting and stiffing patrons is excusable.

It sounds as if the person was finally paid off. It may have been a cash flow issue in the device intended to pay out automatically.

But if they were stiffed, it sounds to me as wrong as if you went into a convenience store, paid for a carton of smokes, and were told "Sorry, sucker, tobacco causes cancer so I'm keeping your money and you get no smokes. Mwaha-ha-ha!"

You are morally correct and these rules do apply in real life. However, this is SL where I can tell you I will sell you Venus on the half-shell for L$5k, accept your payment and give you absolutely nothing in exchange. According to the Lindens, this is an inter-player dispute, they want no part of it and you aren't even allowed to say I defrauded you on these forums without risk of punishment from the forum gods.

Once you abandon conventionality and rationality with regard to how Linden Lab dispenses justice (or more accurately, declines to) it makes way more sense.

I make no apology for thinking it's funny that there are, as someone mentioned above, fake camping chairs out there. In fact I'm sorely tempted to make some chairs and put a big sign saying 'Camping Chairs' above it. I'd be misrepresenting nothing, of course, because any assumption you'll get paid for your time is yours alone. And you'd be most welcome to sit and camp in them as you please.

Which is not the same as if the fake (or real) camping chairs are actually advertising a clear cut schedule of rates and not paying out as promised - which seems to be the true of the original posters case - then that's a scam, and should be AR'd as such. No matter what I think of them or people who use or employ them.

But if they're not advertising rates or announcing payouts and people are dumb enough to sit on them anyway and make their own assumptions about getting paid then... BWAHAHAHA!

Just an update to my earlier post. I was IM'd by the owner and told I would be compensated for my losses. I'm not sure what that means but it sounds positive. Sorry to start all the trouble with everyone arguing back and forth. I was just upset about the way it happened. I guess to quote a famous Los Angelon(LOL) " Can't we all just get along". Well see what happens soon and I'll post another final update.

I like dancing on a dance pad while I'm playing Blood 21. It's like doing two things at once! If I don't win at the game, at least I make a little from the dance pad. I wouldn't want to just sit there in boredom, though - needs to be something else you're doing anyway.

Sitting in a camp chair while looking at textures - which I've also done - is cool, too. And once I built for an hour or so at this place that offered camp chairs while building.

I'm not a new player, and I am a content creator, but I think the dance pads and camp chairs are fun. However, I can't say that I agree with the notion of just sitting there while you really aren't playing the game at all, or even present to chat with anybody.

EXACTLY!

While I still think that venue operators putting up dance pads at games or shop owners providing camping while you browse are gaming the system a bit too much for my liking, I do concede that one person's gaming is another's innovative business practice.

But resis that install mouse-mover or OS-scripter software so that their computer can camp while they go to work..... Lock up the gun-cabinet, Jemima - else I will not be responsible for my actions...

Just to weigh in with my own feelings pro and against camping chairs...

I used to run about 30 of the things in the gaming area of our old land in Jouppi. At the time I thought it was a nice way to say thank you to the people who came and played our games. If someone sat in the chairs when games were not going on I figured I was helping someone who badly needed the cash. A 3L/10 minute camping chair was hardly going to be a get rich quick situation. If I got extra traffic or not was never really and issue for me.

Then then the other shoe dropped. I realized quickly people were running 5-10 AVs using auto clickers. This went so contrary to WHY I was providing the chairs that I started setting payout to 0L when we did not have a game going. Now I had people sending me nasty IMs because they sat for hours in a chair that clearly said 0L/10 minutes and felt I owed them money.

The final straw however was when I realized how badly these chairs drain the computing power of a sim. I call them lag factories at this point because when I took them out our sim gained about 10 FPS.

Needless to say now that we have moved to a private Island we have NO Camping chairs at all. Our games run lightning fast and our former patrons seem to appreciate that a whole lot more than a few L$ for camping while playing.

just my 2L

Not sure who cares but my story has a very happy ending. The owner IM'd today and apoligized and paid me in full. He has restored my faith in his businees practices and I will soon return to his casino and tempt fate again. See u all there! lol

I never got paid by games prototype myself, when I messaged him he just said sorry, Very professional, Ive contacted the lindens but I doubt they will do anything. I got ripped for about 3000l, 2000 of that of my own money I spent trying to get multipliers.
