WOW

Either the $L has seriously risen against the US$, or somebody made a major typo!

from what i could tell, this plot/sim is one of the final mainland sims that are presently being deployed.

there should be a higher than normal demand for this land, thus justifying the higher price paid for it.

..either that or they thought it worked like eBays's proxy bids and thought they would win under that price. *shrug* :)

:D In the land section forums, I saw a post similar to this where
the winner paid 3600$ for a mainland sim.
There was various speculation on the reasons.
One was that the bidder thought it was in L.
Another was that they owned and adjacent sim.

It is difficult for me to believe that it is the last of the mainland
sims, perhaps some of the last on that mainland.
Given demand I would think that more mainland would just
appear.

Or it could be someone who made an account just to make that bid and leave to tick off the other bidders.

There are a couple of mainland sims I would be tempted by... but mostly the name SNAFU would have to be a winning reason to bid up a sim (snafu is in the lower right corner of the main continent).

Which brings forth the question, does LL allow bidding in their auction by unverified accounts? I once tried to bid on a parcel that was being sold for lindens rather than $US. My bid was not accepted since the amount of the bid was greater than what I had in my account at the time. I had figured I would convert the cash over if I won the auction but wasn't inclined to do so just to bid.

Or someone was bidding against a resident who paid $3501 and $3601 just the day before.

At prices like that the expression 'more money than sense' comes to mind.

I personally would like to convey to the person spending 3000 on the land, that the money would be better suited buying me some jimmy choo shoes.. heh

That's the silly thing - the hardware hosting this sim is probably worth far less than $3000

somewhere on these forums there was a Linden post about how they want to fill out the edges of the main mainland.. sorry, i didn't mean all continents of the main land, just the original.

apparently, LL has decided to do something about those abrupt landmass edges that have been around for eons and are making an actual shoreline, which i wuld assume to mean the end of growth for the first continent. (the second being all finished once it was up and the third having a while to go methinks)

so, Hooch, no.. i'm not speaking from any seat of power.. i have no such placement. i'm not FIC, i'm just old.. lol.

either way.. it's still alot for a sim when you could buy 2 private sims for the same price.. plus enough left over to pay for a month or two of upkeep. or maybe that's the point? in the long run it's cheaper to own a mainland sim due to the absence of upkeep. (even thoguh ther is still tier to worry about)

Didn't you claim to have once offered someone US$1000.00 for a custom skin? :)

Good Memory! I got my skin for $40 American. The higher price would of involved a lot of work, full rights for me to distribute and sell them, none for the creator. In any case the resident not only rejected it but flamed me.
My current $40 skin is just fine and it is all mine :)
