Money is a vehicle... and while the trip may be nice, I'm more interested in the destination.

Another great Wall Street quote - "Money is just something you need in case you don't die tomorrow."

Its a tool, much like those that evangalize it incessantly :)

Man dies.. has a suitcase full of gold bricks in a suitcase buried with him. he get sup to heaven and ask Saint Peter: "Can I take this inside?"

Saint Peter says "sure, why not?"

He gets inside, and immediately opens his suitcaseto take out the gold bars proclaiming : "I'm rich!"

Another person walks by. "Why are you holding part of the street?"

When you die, all that money is worth nothing to you, its all in how your family and friends remember you. Thats a true legacy.

Sucks that things people value is common and useless in heaven. Can't even value love and affection if you get it constantly and there's nothing to balance it out or compare it to on the other side.

I'm pleased to see that so far, at least 21% of poll respondents live for money.

I love it.

Money = Freedom.

Money is an object itself. Your cash isn't worth anything more than rough toilet paper to me Jamie.

People who say they don't live for money, but for something else intangible and pansy, like love, happiness and self fullfilment really should try living in poverty for once.

Money can be the root of all evil, or good. The thing is, it is entirely up to you. The more money you have, the more evil or good you can do. If you have not much, you're inevitably relegated to a life of mediocrity and drossness. Even the coffin you lay in when you die has to be in untextured default prims.

Man invented religion so that those living in the dumps don't feel so bad, since they'd know theres 40 young virgins waiting for them in heaven when they kick the bucket.

I have, I lived in a homeless shelter at one point. I still don't live for money.

Kind of a bleak view... if that were true, why would anyone ever be a stay at home mom (or dad to be pc about it) when they could be out making money?

Money is nice but doesn't substitute for the "intangible and pansy" things like self-esteem, respect, purpose, goals, accomplishment, friends, family, faith, compassion, importance and character.

Sure everything is interconnected... but if you have those intangible and pansy things, the money will follow.

The question is living for money. Not 'money is a substitute for [fill in the blank]'.
Someone has to pay for the stay at home mom, whether it be dad or the government handing out welfare. Couples juggle these things, most of the time, out of necessity. Sometimes the strain is too much and the family falls apart.

We as humans have been cast out of our natural habitat by our own doing. Where animals live for food in the wild, our source of 'food' is money.

Money has the potential to let both mom and dad stay home and take care of the kids indefinitely. I'd say, concentrate on earning money and all the other things will fall in place as a by-product. All the pansy stuff you mentioned are inventions of nature and human culture. Even love is a survival chemical.

The problem with that arises, when do you stop concentrating on earning money? If that consumes your life's ambitions then that's not really much of a life at all - you will always be incomplete, unfufilled.

Most who have said this to me have either never tasted abundance of wealth or have watched Lord of the Rings one too many times.

For some, the accumulation of wealth reaches a point of diminishing returns. When it becomes an obsession "more" will never be enough.

And unless you live like a miser hoarding away every penny there's always the risk that your lavish lifestyle will grow to consume your affluent wealth, shackling you to the grindstone to make more... and more... to keep up with your ever more difficult to lower expectations.

I've seen sudden affluence ruin too many people.

Some people can adapt, and the people I've seen that make out best are able to forget about the affluence and focus on things that feed their sense of purpose.

Not sure why I'm bothering to reply... these things come with first hand perspective not hearsay. I hope you have the opportunity yourself to 'taste the abundance of wealth', and hope you do well with it if it does.
