Neither.

I don't make content, nor do I buy it. After the initial purchase of skin, hair, etc., I havn't bought anything. I just sort of exist with what I've got.

I don't think you are going to get an accurate poll here, since those who aren't earning or attempting earn money in game, probably aren't all that interested in a "Land and Economy" forum as those who are :/ or at least that's what it's looking like by the results so far lol

Well, if i had opened this thread in the general section, some Resmod would have moved it here anyway...

Just curious how the content provider - consumer - ratio looks like. I know, that only a very small percentage of SL's population is on the forums, but we can take this poll as a micro census. It would be nifty though if LL can launch a gridwide poll.

I'm defining a content provider as someone who has a business in SL or is earning money.
Consumers are those who doesn't earn money by producing and selling goods/services.

At one point, I ran across some Linden quote about 70% of the SL pop having rezzed a prim all by themselves... <lol>

Because if they had that money, they will cashout everything in USD and never help the community.

I makes some money in game. Don't cash out. kinda blows that theory don't it. ;)

Heck.. a Linden agreed a poll intended for the general forum goer should be on the resmod forum because it was a poll about resmods.

Except it was intended to ask all forumgoers..and general was the best place..

Looking at the figures, we can clearly see and overwhelming majority of money earners in SL. This means, we have a lot more potential L$ sellers on Lindex than potential L$ buyers which is explaining the huge supply side compared to the small demand side.

LL should alter their marketing strategy and draw in more consumers and less greedy content producers.

ReallyRick had a great sig at one time: "I AM a content provider! I provide the laughter!" or somesuch.

Hey Sans! :D I didn't know anyone even paid attention to that line I used to have in my siggy. But yeah I said, "I am a content creator. I create laughter." I thought it was a cheesy line but sorta got my point across that everyone in SL contributes something.

Why is the only choice for content providers "earn money". I've been around, more or less, doing nothing but providing a little content. Sure I earn a little money but nothing to make anything resembling a real income off of. I have ~L$325k, and have cashed in twice for a total of L$100,000 (on a side note I've given away/donated well over double that). I don't consider that money making, in the real world sense of things. I could make real money a lot more efficiently doing real world work in much less time, albeit perhaps not as entertainingly.

In the 3 years I've been around I think I've spent maybe L$1k on buying junk in SL. So I don't consider myself a consumer in the least -- SL is for creating, imho.

So where's the "I'm a content creator, money is secondary or hardly a concern. I do it because it's fun" poll option?

Of course this all assumes that there's just as many consumers reading the forums as content creators. I'd suggest that a good majority of consumers don't get as far as participating here so the results would probably be skewed anyway.

Flawed Poll

None makes everything. Most people are both, consumers and content providers, or at least that is for sure that every content provider is also a consumer of some other kind of stuff, or at least of land :)

Yep I agree...people come to the forums to learn about building designing economy land and all the other stuff These are people involved in creating and adding content whether that be for $ or L$

Apparently only 10% of the SL community visit the forums anyway..and as outlined above those 10% are likely to be old timers discussing scripts & money etc ( with the odd exception)
