How is it that we've missed you and yet you have only just arrived?

That probably makes no sense whatsoever but neither does the SL Economy.

Anyways... welcome!

Lets just hope that 'stipend policy analysis' doesn't cut stipends.

They do I know many who would quit premium. Myself included.

Praise the Lord. Someone who can think about this stuff full-time. Very good news.

Poor lass doesn't know what she's in for, though.

She'll run away from the Linden office screaming incoherently after she is forced to, politely, mind you, explain for the 97th time that giving everyone L$2000 stipends doesn't work.

Ah, I'm sure Robin warned you. Welcome aboard!

hahahahah.... I believe this action is called: The Second Life Welfare State

No need to work (aka: Create), get paid weekly by LL, sell your L$ for US$,
and mooch ass backwards off camping chairs, giveaways, etc...

LL needs a "work for pay" model. People who do nothing, get nothing.
They can still buy L$ off the exchange if they need cash to buy things.
But if they don't "do something" they get jack squat.

Example Jobs The LL Pays For:
------------------------------------
School Teacher/Professor (ie: LSL Classes)
Police - (ie: Reporting X Rated Stuff in PG Land)
Judges - (ie: 3rd Party Arbitrators with Enforcement Power)
Court Clerks - (ie: To handle the Court Paperwork)
Content Creators - (ie: Similar to Funding the Arts)

Those are just a few examples that LL should fund directly. Then let the
creative juices and greedy money grubbers jockey for L$ through business
creation and investment.

For example, somebody could start a Construction Business to build
homes, buildings, etc for the less educated. They would employ many
folks from Sales Agents, Designers, Builders, etc... Let in-game businesses
pay people weekly stipends, not the Endless L$ Printing Machine located
in LL Headquarters.

And about the bit on Judges... LL needs to create the ability to draft
binding contracts which can only be enforced by a Judge. For instance,
lets say I Loan Johnny Walker L$100,000 that he plans to pay me back
L$XX per week/month. Johnny uses his land as collateral. If Johnny
defaults on payments, a case is submitted to the Judges who are SL
Players that are paid L$ by LL to rule on such cases. If its found that
Johnny refuses to pay, his land is revoked and given to me to cover
Johnny's debt...

Something as simple as that would allow for the creation of a Banking
Industry. Accepting deposits, loaning out funds, collecting interest, and
giving an exponential growth to the SL GDP. Because I might not have
the L$ to hire a rack of scripters for my next idea-invention, but if I can
get a loan from a SL bank and pay it off as my business grows, then
its a Win-Win for everybody (from Employee, To Banker, to Investor).

Hello.. I already pay a monthly fee..

And I work full time (or more), not to mention the emergence of player run government there- something which I know some Linden posted would never happen.

Take my stipend and I will take my premium away. LL will lose tier and a monthly amount from me. Not suprisingly, I'm probably not alone in this. Some of us are actually too busy rl to work fulltime on SL as well and therefore pay cash through a monthly fee to receive a stipend. Heck (censored version), its the only premium benefit besides buying land..which then costs you monthly tier.

Removing the stipend is a STUPID idea.

Hahahahah.... That is the typical SL Forum life.. Conflict of ideas.
One person wants to be a lazy bum and collect welfare from the
state, and the other believes people should earn their keep.

Well, I'm far from a lazy bum, and I don't collect "welfare" from anybody.

I pay to have the premium accounts and the stipend that comes with them.

I'm pretty sure, Vasudha, that if you cut out the premium stipend I will be tiering down to my free 512s and displaying my houses in boxes rather than in my large store now.

That is, if I don't just go to basic, and save myself bunches of money. Paying $9.95 a month just so you can squat on 512 of land is a pretty lousy deal.

Anyway, I still have my land in Azure, and I pay Nexus in Lindens. Having my store property (plus my own home in Azure Islands) is a pretty big luxury for me as it is. I have it all cause it gives me pleasure.

I don't WANT to take away that pleasure from myself. But my mama didn't raise a total fool, either.

Now if I were really smart, I would go ahead and list my property for sale now, just in case you decide to take away premium stipends, because if you do that, there will be a glut of property and I'll just have to abandon it.

I think I pretty much represent the working middle class on this game, Vasudha, and if my stipend goes away, you will squeeze me out of having a land presence.

Coco does not represent the working middle class. She does not and never will speak for me.

To that end...remove the stipend.

If I'm not working middle class in SL, then, what am I?

I consider myself a representative of the working middle class. I never said I spoke for you.

I consider myself a reprentative for the working middle class.

Remove the stipend. It's not necessary. SL is neither a game nor a welfare program.

There is no free lunch.

If anyone wants to play a game, perhaps they should be playing Twister or Snakes n Ladders.

There is alot more to SL than playing Ken and Barbie.

We are both working middle class.

I should have said, "I am a representative of the working middle class," since that is what I meant. I did not mean that all of the working middle class thinks as I do.

That will be the effect of it for me, though, and I doubt I'm the only one. So, if they don't mind a bunch of people tiering down to basic, fine.

To this point, I wholly agree.

Let all the whiners and complainers tier down to basic. There will be someone coming in behind them and grabbing up the land.

LL loses nothing. The REAL working class wins.
