The main thing these attacks (including having to fill out two AR's for fly-by random shooting attacks while on my own land just the past two days) are making me wonder, is if offering SL basic accounts for free are coming back and biting us in the tush.

After all, some of these griefers, have nothing to lose, no money spent, so come into SL to raise some heck, and if they get banned or booted, so what...

An idea: keep the free accounts but charge people significant quantities for abuse that reaches this level. For lesser incidents of abuse, institute a tiered systems of warmings followed by penalty charges.

I don't know if this is doable or even necessariliy legal, but pernaps some smarter person might.

Let me guess.. This was an accident created by a new member of a certain grief group they were just "testing" a new script and had no idea it would have this type of result.

I totally agree, and I just want to add in a small part the Linden ppl are to blame from the point of view that they started the free accounts, But that being said I do agree with allowing ppl to have the free access, it's a double edged sword ya make something free and it will cost someone in this case "US" with outages. I feel that anyone, anyone caught purposly causing anyone espically paid members greif and harrasment should be auto banned and IP logged. I know I'm spouting off and most of what I'm saying would be really hard to impelment but hay it helps to say it I just feel the speed to witch they reacted to this event is good.

I've always considered the free accounts a bad thing. Honestly $10 bucks was pittance for this game, and it was enough that anyone who came here had some actual motivation to effing stay and not screw around with the system! Alot of people are coming here, saying "this is too complicated" and leaving anyway(I've seen it, and half the time it can be fixed by someone saying "Hey.. did you know you can use the find menu to get free items?.." and others are getting frustrated and then intentionally finding ways to piss off the people who are having fun!

On a different note, the welcome area is rather crap. I explored it after 6 months ingame and it doesn't make much sense to me(I am probably an idiot, but where are these "sponsored links" in the find menu.. I got like 3 notes about them, and no directions on where they are exactly..) Half the people in the welcome area are bitter, confused newbs, retards wearing huge particle effects, and other social dregs who are too ignorant or socially inept to consider leaving the lil fountain they started at(not to say there aren't nice newbs under the layers of filth..)

The saddest thing is alot of these troublemakers are just crying for attention, I am a gaurd of a popular sim, and once or twice a day someone wanders in with no decorum, class, or social grace.. and they are just doing it because they're bored! They find a spot where people are having fun, and they spam their shitty fart gestures and smash into people and talk in all caps and shouts and just try to be the biggest stink they possibly can..

And the worst part is.. even if the Lindens listen to the reports, and some sort of punishment is enforced.. someone with a (sometimes slightly) different name and the same attitude is back in 1-2 days.. and now they had a damn vendetta.

And yes, I blame the free accounts.. and I've rambled on for quite a bit.. >.>;

As long as LL doesnt make any attempt to put a little bit more conrol on all the shit that gets uploaded here, it's gonna get worse. Andits completely pointless to punish someone who uses a sim nuke that he just bought, if you allow some else to enrich himself by selling those inworld without being stopped.

I partially agree with you. Scripters who sell dangerous products to idiots are an issue. But at the same time most scripters I know are sane, reasonable people, who came by their abilities without bastardized script kiddying, or some magic potion that took them from newb to script colossus overnight.

Like all things, scripting has to be learned, and more importantly earned, to be appreciated. I've just started scripting, and I already know it's a double edged sword. There are alot of warning signs strewn around that make it nigh on impossible to go "Oh wow, I didn't know I could get in trouble for doing that" and because of that every action you make should be done with full responsibility(and yes, that includes selling dangerous toys to morons.) For instance, I have done alot of research on pushes, mostly to counteract them or just for the hell of it. I have about 40 scripts that has cross-sim quality pushes in them.. but I've /never/ been reported or caused an incident with one(unlike the sudden emptied sandboxes I see when newbs play with c4 or such toys.. *on a related note, SandBox Newcomb is a scriptless sim, and as such you can grab and hold vehicles there just by editing them.. keeps the whole place very quiet*) because from the beginning I have made all my toys that push have big warnings(most of them even have push somewhere in their name of system text, just to be safe)

Also how can you not see the need for home security in SL?.. I mean have you even been in a private home recent?! I've had people walk into houses of my friends(not mine.. had to go private parcel) and act like it was a sandbox, rezzing toys and "oh look, I paid 1.2k for this pistol that shoots red dots and sends people three sims over, LOL OMG PHEAR MY CAWKGUN." Most people 'on the street' are so braindead that the majority of their conversation is spammy sound gestures... I start seeing red when it gets past one gesture every 5 mins.. It boggles my mind why /they/ come here and spew their juvenile, moron blabbering cartoon ripped 15 second long hamster dance bullshit audio pollution, when they can get the same damn fix without all that pesky 'socializing' by turning the fu-mutha-ck TV!

I'm wondering how much longer before all the island sims turn into planned communities, with VIP lists, access applications with wait lines in the weeks or months range, and no strike rules.. just a bunch of big, private chatrooms with the mainland nothing but a huge green cloud of that "look what I can do" ass gas..

*edit* So no.. don't do anything to hurt scripting, I know I for one perfer the occasional crash if it weeds out these sociopathic lil pricks.(Yes.. I know it doesn't work, because LL accepts the $1 coinstar debit cards)
