I agree with Cocoanut, you need to change that language.
I signed up Premium specifically so I could purchase a First Land plot and get started building. Now several days later not only am I still unable to purchase land because of the Premium Bug, but I also find that the First Land I signed up to get isn't going to be available to me for some time. This was very misleading, in my opinion.
Each day is costing me approximately $0.33, and each day I wait means I've wasted my money.
It took me quite awhile of searching to discover the information that First Land would indeed be available on the Land Sales tab, something that no one could tell me and everyone just said that First Land would be made available to me as soon as I signed up Premium. If I had known otherwise, I would have waited on my upgrade until I saw some available. I do enjoy the game greatly and don't want to cancel, but I do feel like I've been lied to in order to get me to go Premium before I should have.

Good Ideas
06-28-2005 11:42
Hi Daemon and all, I am fairly new to SL also and I was looking for land with a friend of mine, running into the same problems you are. The only temporary solution I have found for my desire for a place, is to rent. The landlords give you options on how long you can stay and the prices vary quite a bit. Then when you finally find your land, you just move. You may have already found this out for yourself but hey, thought I'd pass it along. You all have given me better ideas on my quest for SL land and I thank you. Daemon, how funny to find you here when I just met you yesterday Oh and if you do get an answer from the Lindens, could you post on here again? Thanks =^.^=

From: Cocoanut Koala Anybody see that free land that was supposedly going to be put out on Monday? coco I don't think the land is free in that you have to pay the 1L$ a meter for it but that the tier for that 512 is included in your premium subscription.

All this lack of First Land business has me bothered. I signed up for SL on the basic plan about two weeks ago, and I've been really enjoying the experience and have been thinking about upgrading so I can buy land, but I'd like to feel like I'm not going to spend the next six months waiting for land to become available.
I sure wish the Lindens had a better answer than "check back frequently and we're making First Land available when we can and we're sorry if other people buy it up before you have a chance to see it because it goes fast."
And I agree 110% that the First Land language on all the web pages needs to change to reflect the _actual_ situation.

So they who bought their premium subscription and couldn't buy the first land just waste their real money day by day. That is the question. Now Linden should think seriously about this system of account.

I signed up originally on the basic one off payment last week and then signed up for the monthly plan and I managed to get my hands on some very nice first land, close to a teleportal as well. Having said that it was sheer luck that I just happened to be online when it became available and after landing and buying about 3 others arrived within 2 minutes trying to buy the land as well. Also on the land I've got to add that 512 sq m is frustrating small in terms of size and the ability to build objects in terms of prims, but then again I'm only new. I can see myself buying some more land later, although the cost is a bit steep. Tiretta (248,80) for anyone who is interested.

Well, I'm tired of trying to find decent land to buy. I'm new and am on the monthy package. No "First land" to be had, unless I want to stay on 24/7 trying to get it.

Fortunate if hassled

When I signed up, LL didn't sell first land for $1/m2. I had to buy it like everyone else and paid a goodly sum for it as well. So while first land is a hassle and waiting tedious, it is better than the alternative.

From: Daemon Shang is it just me, or does this sound like 'tough, its all working as planned?' I (and some of the other posters here) have been looking for the first land that is promised in your sign up. Its isn't there. Now you tell us you will post up a little , maybe on a Monday, so what are we supposed to do, hang on all day contantly checking to see if the inadequate number of land parcels come up?
If you are going to restrict the available land so much it is never available, maybe you should consider a different way of allocating it. The current systen sucks. Well you could look at it like the Lindens are giving you a *gift* of land at a much cheaper price than you will ever see again. Personally I try not to complian about gifts, it just doesn't look right somehow. !

From: Margaret Mfume A post to the Hotline reads as follows: ________________ Pratyeka Muromachi Meditating Avatar Join Date: Apr 2005 Posts: 24 Quitting SL, donating land to first land Hi! I want to quit SL for personal reasons. I currently own 8640 sq m of land. I want all of it to become available as first land, for my own personal reasons. How do I go about making this happen?... Wow! What a good idea. Especially since Pratyeka is my neighbor and I would prefer a horde of newbies over a big land owner any day. Seriously though if someone is willing to donate their land to "first land" I think everything should be done to accomodate them. Though I haven't seen LL explicitly state the case, it seems likely that *abandoned* "first land" will be re-cycled into "new first land" after the appropriate down time has passed. If Lindens are not auctioning off anything smaller than a sim, that statment kind of implies that this is the case. .

on First Land

From: Azrael Harker Well, I'm tired of trying to find decent land to buy. I'm new and am on the monthy package. No "First land" to be had, unless I want to stay on 24/7 trying to get it. I got tired of waiting for First Land pretty quickly and rented a lot (furnished with a nice prefab house, and they were willing to swap in another model if I wanted) from Ravenglass, where they gave me a discount on my rental for kicking in my 512m2 to the group. They even threw in a free vendor spot, if that is of any interest. In the end, I bought a starter plot on Ellis Island from Anshe Chung because I liked the zoning - I hung around on the island for a total of an hour or two over a couple of days and didn't see any real lag. Her starter plots are just as sweet a deal as starter land, except you can get 1024m2 for 1024L$ instead of just 512m, and it doesn't count against your allocation. I do have to pay her an extra tier fee, but I don't mind paying since the land doesn't count toward the 512m included in my premium membership.

But seems a good alternative to no land at all. Thanks for the constuctive answer also Az

From: Azrael Harker No, its not a gift.. It was part of the agreement When I upgraded my account. I agree. Most people's entire reason for going premium is to own land. What I don't understand about the First Land issue is this: I have been playing 7 months. The last couple weeks is the ONLY time I have ever seen no First Land listed. The responses here from players and Lindens seemed to be mainly that you need to hurry up and snatch it, because it goes fast...I glance at the land listings every day, and like I said, the problem is a new one. So it's a puzzle--what happened in the last couple weeks that caused the problem? I try to help the newer players coming in with free stuff and game suggestions. They all respond with frustration about the absence of First Land. When you start up a premium with only a grand or two to play with, that First Land is real important. I love the game, want to see it keep going strong, let's hope there's a fix for our new players--by the way, welcome!

Az It counts towards your tier with ANSHECHUNG.COM and your land ownership is guaranteed by us within our own sub-system. Mind that there are also restrictions on the mainland and rules to follow.

Mind that there are also restrictions on the mainland and rules to follow. Could you give me some insite to some of the restrictions. I'm confused about "Ownership Guarantee" in "Sub-System" and tier with Anshechung vs tier with Linden. So basically, I guess I'm asking, How is your land different from Linden land/First land ? If this has already been answered somewhere, please give link. Thanks Az

Even using her (Anshe) land, I'd still be paying for stuff I wasnt getting. So I downgraded my account. Bad way to do buisness for Lindens if you ask me. They should set aside and hold or make available 512 plots as soon as you go premium. Oh well, not my concern anymore.
Thanks for all who replied constructively

Renting land
07-08-2005 23:20
I rent a plot in Rapture sim from Hiro Queso, and I would highly recommend that people take a look at the alternatives on offer. With a premium account, you have the right to own 512 sq metres of land without incurring any extra tier. You have to go find the land and buy it in world, however. With Anshe Chung, you can buy 1024 for $1024 and then pay your extra tier to her. You don't actually own the land...there are lots of thread about this...but you can sell it on, and what you can do with the land etc is more or less the same as it would be if you DID own the land as ordinary Linden land. With Hiro Queso, there is no downpayment for renting his land. The cost of renting varies with the size of the land but is generally the same as the Linden tier for the same size of land. You do not own the land, and cannot pass it on to anyone else, but what you can do with it is exactly the same as it would be if you DID own the land. With Linden land, there are a wide range of different areas, all with the possibility that someone can come along and build something huge and horrible. With Anshe Chung and Hiro there are zoned areas where this wont happen. So...there are alternatives to first land, and frankly some of them are better than first land . Cali
