Welcome to the metaverse.....NOT
Don't expect Phillip to answer any real questions at the town hall....he never does....he usually defers to others or says I'll have to look into that. As far as LL only selling full mainland sims....well... they fucked themselves there and they will see why in the months to come. Lastly why would anyone buy a private sim at an even more inflated price than a mainland sim....and trust me you don't get jack shit for owning a private sim except maybe a higher payment to LL....the concierge service sucks. At this rate and with all the terrible decision making thats been going on at LL I would think that the next 6 months or so will be very telling. _____________________

Since the persons who buy all new land will have to pay cash for it now, it seems to me that only small fries will be buying Lindens. The Land Barons may accept payments in Lindens, but they will be selling, not buying, now. I can't imagine that this will help the value of the Linden dollar. I suspect that they will just stop accepting Lindens and ask for cash instead. That would be very very bad.
I never won any auctions anyhow, but I really do need to sell Lindens from time to time to stay in the game at all. The game would not be much fun for me if I have to go to basic membership to be able to afford it. _____________________

... Lastly why would anyone buy a private sim at an even more inflated price than a mainland sim.... lots of reasons, but technically the price of a private sim is fixed, and the "price" of a mainland sim is just the starting auction bid. So it remains to be seen if mainland sims really are "cheaper". I suspect they won't be. Buster |

Mainland Regions Second, we're converting to whole region (16 acres) auctions, with a minimum starting bid of US$1000. We will no longer parcel mainland regions in advance, except for those regions that are set aside for First Land for new residents. Buyers will still be able to parcel land and directly resell it to their fellow residents. Now I'm confused... does this mean that LL is setting up entire sims of First Land (128 plots of 512 m2), or are they still going to be creating parcelled sims including First Land. Who would want to spend $1000 for a partial sim that has First Land in it? I'd planned on getting a private island, but I think now I'll wait and see what happens, since the price has already gone up to $1,250 according the the Island FAQ. _____________________

Who would want to spend $1000 for a partial sim that has First Land in it? Not I. I will not buy a sim for $1000+ that has first land in it, no way. _____________________

I'll just... gently raise a finger here and remind people that people of average wealth in real life are slowly being squeezed out of the game. Check the track record. Count how often the little man has gotten slammed.
Every time this happens, though, there are people who either forget about history altogether or are new and don't have one and so they still, relentlessly, think that LL is working for everyone, not a specific clientelle. They are wrong. _____________________

--------
Auctions for mainland regions will run until the land is sold, and we'll make sure there is enough land available at any one time so interested buyers will have a choice of terrain and location. -------- So, if the auction will run until the land is sold, does this mean that there will be no time limit on an auction? What determines when the auction closes? Hmmm. |

Price Change for Private Island
06-29-2005 12:45
I went on live help and talked to Jack Linden. He says the change on the land page is not correct and that private islands won't change price until 7/15. Small consolation, but buy now!

To clarify -- the effective date on the island price change is July 15. We'll fix the website to make that clear.
Also, whole regions that are auctioned will not have First Land. We'll create regions with First Land separately, or through parceling reclaimed land. _____________________

So does this mean that LL will release two type of regions, one with First Land parcels and one up for auction with a region-size parcel of land?

The game would not be much fun for me if I have to go to basic membership to be able to afford it. I think this is a really important point here. If the Lindens are going to a cash only for land structure, then have they not just plugged a main drain on L$ supply? With that drain gone, what is to stop the value of the USD vs. L$ from free falling? Or maybe that is all part of the plan... completely phase out the L$? I don't know if I like where this could be heading. _____________________
